Full Job Description
About the Role

We're looking for a Platforming Engineering Manager to lead the team that builds the universal conduit between Granted and the healthcare ecosystem - insurer portals, provider EHRs, HSA/FSA platforms, banks, and the broader web. Your team also owns the platform and infrastructure layer: CI/CD, cloud infrastructure, observability, security compliance, and developer experience.

This is a player-coach role. You'll spend your first three months contributing as an IC - shipping code, learning the systems, earning context - then settle into an ongoing split of management and hands-on engineering. We want someone who can set technical direction across backend integrations and platform infrastructure, and who builds teams that ship reliably without you as the bottleneck.

What You'll Do
  • Own execution end-to-end - sprint planning, retros, delivery tracking, and a clear narrative of what the team committed to, delivered, and learned
  • Set direction across two domains: AI-driven data integrations with external systems, and the platform/infrastructure layer that keeps Granted fast, secure, and reliable
  • Drive prioritization - translate business needs into an engineering roadmap, protect the team's focus, and make trade-off calls with stakeholders
  • Build the team's capacity - structured growth conversations, stretch assignments, and delegation that lets the pod run well when you're not in the room
  • Surface problems before they're discovered - maintain a living tracker of commitments tied to business goals; flag risks with a recommendation, not just an alert
  • Ship code - stay close to the work across backend systems, orchestration layers, and infrastructure, contributing where you're most needed
🧰 You'll Bring

Must-haves
  • 6+ years of backend or platform engineering experience, with depth in distributed systems, data pipelines, or cloud infrastructure
  • 2+ years of technical leadership experience (engineering management strongly preferred; tech lead considered for exceptional candidates)
  • Startup veteran - you've worked at a Series B or earlier company; zero-to-one experience is a strong plus
  • Business-informed prioritization instincts - you connect engineering decisions to company strategy, not just technical elegance
  • Willingness to contribute as an IC during onboarding
Nice-to-haves
  • Experience building integrations with complex systems
  • Background in infrastructure or platform engineering: CI/CD, observability, security/compliance (HIPAA, SOC2)
  • Experience with AI/LLM-powered automation in production
  • Background in healthcare, fintech, or other regulated industries

You'll Thrive Here If:
  • You prioritize ruthlessly - you know what matters to the business, align your team accordingly, and say no to low-leverage work
  • You lead proactively - risks get surfaced with a recommendation before anyone has to ask
  • You build through people - your measure of success is a team that maintains quality and velocity without you as the bottleneck
  • You span the stack - you're comfortable setting direction across backend services, data pipelines, and infrastructure, even where your depth varies
  • You're reflective about leadership - you're building a leadership identity, not just running sprints
  • You're mission-driven - you want your work to have real impact on people's lives

📢 You don't need to check every single box-if you're passionate, driven, and excited about the impact AI can make on the healthcare system, we'd love to hear from you!

Working with us

Granted is headquartered in New York, with our office in Chelsea. Our team is split between in-office and remote across the US: Engineering and CX are remote-first, while other teams work hybrid from our NYC office (in-office Monday-Thursday, Fridays from home). We're intentional about when we're together and flexible where it enables deep, high-quality work.

More than anything, we're here because we care deeply about the problem we're solving and the standard we hold ourselves to. Healthcare is broken, and fixing it requires people who want ownership, impact, and the chance to do the most meaningful work of their careers.
