Modivcare is looking for an experienced Platform Architect to join our team. As a Cloud Platform Architect, you will serve as a senior, hands-on technical leader within our Architecture practice, bringing deep cloud-native expertise, delivery involvement, and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) discipline. You will define cloud architecture, build and validate infrastructure using Pulumi or AWS CDK, and work alongside engineering teams throughout delivery to ensure what is built matches what was designed. Your work will directly impact the scalability, security, cost efficiency, and reliability of the technology platforms that support Modivcare’ s business and the services we provide. This role offers the opportunity to shape our cloud capabilities while enabling engineering teams to deliver solutions that make a meaningful difference for the people and communities we serve.
We’re looking for purpose-driven applicants who are motivated by using technology to solve meaningful business challenges, improve how teams deliver critical services, and build sustainable solutions that support Modivcare’ s mission. The ideal candidate combines strategic architecture expertise with a willingness to remain hands-on throughout delivery and takes ownership of turning well-designed architecture into measurable business impact.
This role…
Architecture & Design
- Defines cloud-native architecture patterns for the enterprise, covering compute, networking, storage, security, identity, and AI/ML workload infrastructure on AWS.
- Establishes and evolves cloud architecture standards, guardrails, and reference architectures that enable engineering teams to build secure, scalable, and consistent solutions.
- Evaluates new AWS services, IaC patterns, and platform capabilities, making build vs. buy vs. configure decisions with clear rationale and consideration for business value.
- Designs multi-account AWS organization structures, landing zones, and network topologies appropriate to healthcare compliance requirements, including HIPAA and SOC 2.
- Architects cost-efficient, right-sized infrastructure with FinOps principles embedded into the design from the start.
Hands-On Delivery
- Builds and maintains infrastructure-as-code using Pulumi (TypeScript/Python) as the primary tool, with AWS CDK considered where Pulumi is not the right fit.
- Prototypes cloud infrastructure for new initiatives end-to-end, proving the architecture works before handing it off to engineering teams to scale and operate.
- Contributes directly to IaC repositories, writing production-quality Pulumi stacks that engineering teams can maintain, extend, and operate without rearchitecting.
- Works embedded with engineering teams during delivery phases, reviewing PRs, unblocking infrastructure decisions, and ensuring architectural fidelity through deployment.
- Produces complete handoff packages, including architecture diagrams, IaC repositories, runbooks, security and compliance documentation, and acceptance criteria.
- Maintains a clear boundary between architecture and operations, focusing on design quality and delivery excellence rather than incident response, on-call rotation, or day-to-day platform operations.
Practice Leadership
- Provides technical direction to the offshore Cloud & Infrastructure Solutions Delivery Architect, reviewing architectures, setting standards, and mentoring on cloud-native delivery.
- Partners with the Director of Architecture on cloud strategy, roadmap, and investment decisions.
- Engages with business unit stakeholders to understand workload requirements and translates them into cloud architecture recommendations that support business objectives.
- Contributes to the broader Architecture practice by sharing patterns, leading cloud-focused guilds or working groups, and building the team’s collective cloud capability.
- Maintains awareness of the evolving AWS service landscape and healthcare compliance requirements, proactively surfacing relevant changes to the Architecture practice and engineering leadership.
We are interested in speaking with individuals with the following…
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field required; equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Seven (7) or more years of progressively responsible experience in cloud architecture or cloud engineering, with the majority of recent experience designing and delivering enterprise-scale AWS solutions.
- Demonstrated experience designing and implementing enterprise AWS cloud platforms, including multi-account strategies, cloud governance, and Infrastructure as Code.
- Experience developing cloud platforms within regulated industries, such as healthcare or other highly regulated environments, preferred.
- Experience working in embedded architecture or product delivery teams preferred.
- AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional and/or AWS Certified DevOps Engineer – Professional certifications preferred.
- Experience with AWS CDK, AI/ML infrastructure, healthcare data platforms, and FinOps tools preferred.
- Expert knowledge of AWS cloud technologies, including compute (EC2, ECS, EKS, Lambda), networking (VPC, Transit Gateway, Direct Connect), storage (S3, EFS, RDS, DynamoDB), and security services (IAM, KMS, Service Control Policies, GuardDuty, Security Hub).
- Advanced knowledge of cloud-native architecture principles, enterprise platform design, and multi-account AWS environments using AWS Organizations and Control Tower.
- Strong proficiency with Infrastructure as Code (IaC), including Pulumi (TypeScript or Python), AWS CDK, Git-based development workflows, modular architecture, state management, policy-as-code (e.g., Checkov, OPA), and drift detection.
- Demonstrated ability to design, prototype, and implement scalable, secure, and resilient cloud infrastructure solutions that align with business and technical requirements.
- Strong understanding of cloud governance, security, compliance, and architecture best practices, including experience supporting regulated environments such as HIPAA, SOC 2, or similar compliance frameworks.
- Knowledge of cloud migration strategies, cloud platform modernization, and enterprise architecture standards.
- Ability to evaluate emerging cloud technologies, tools, and services and recommend innovative, cost-effective solutions.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and technical decision-making skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to develop architecture documentation, technical standards, and implementation guidance for engineering, security, and business stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to provide technical leadership, mentor architects and engineers, and collaborate effectively across cross-functional teams.
- Ability to work independently with a high degree of autonomy while managing multiple priorities and complex technical initiatives.
- Preferred knowledge of AI/ML infrastructure on AWS (e.g., SageMaker, Bedrock, OpenSearch), FinOps practices and cost optimization tools, healthcare interoperability standards (e.g., HL7, FHIR, Epic), and embedded architecture delivery models.
