Job Summary
The Instrumentation, Controls and Electrical Production Technician is responsible for the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of a 2x1 combined cycle power generation facility utilizing GE 7FA combustion turbines and GE D11 steam turbines (Emerson Delta V and GE Mark VIe control systems). Candidate ensures strict adherence to safety, health and environmental procedures as they relate to plant operations and maintenance including but not limited to Lockout Tagout, Job Safety Analysis, Confined Space, Hot Work, Electrical Safety and PPE. Hourly range for this position is $36 - $60 per hour.

Job Description
  • Continuous Emissions Monitoring (CEM's) system expert. (CGA's, Linearities, fuel gas cals)
  • Responsible for electrical maintenance work, also to address electrical fault issues in breakers and controllers as needed to keep the plant running and reliable
  • Troubleshoots, repairs, and calibrates equipment such as high voltage breakers and transformers, pumps, motors, transmitters, alarm systems, monitoring and recording equipment, phone/public address systems, pressure switches, solenoid valves, and limit switches.
  • Responsible for identifying and resolving issues with all of the above-mentioned equipment and write work orders to document work required
  • Prepares equipment for service after repairs are complete
  • Responsible for making sure that electrical and controls P&ID's are being kept up to date and make revisions where necessary.
  • Responsible to ensure that electrical and controls panel schedules are being kept up to date and make revisions where necessary
  • Research and coordinate with vendors and site administrative staff for parts procurement as needed to repair instrumentation and electrical equipment
  • Electrical contractor oversight for day-to-day and outage electrical work
  • Instrumentation and controls involving Emerson, Delta V distributed controls system
  • Instrumentation and controls GE Mark VIe distributed controls system
  • Perform failure reporting, barrier reporting, and document time, and materials in work management system (Maximo) for each job completed
  • Develop a clear understanding of all plant processes and takes proper actions when problems are discovered
  • Required to gain a basic operational knowledge of the plant systems and operate the equipment within specifications. Will be able to stand in as a BOP operator if needed
  • Responds to unit trips and abnormal operating conditions to maintain plant equipment in a safe operating condition. Responds to emergent situations including call-outs and outages


Basic Qualifications:
  • Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated experience with industrial electrical equipment troubleshooting and maintenance.
  • 4-6 years' experience in industrial environment required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in the use of proper procedures to clean electrical motors (DC and AC), make electrical connections on DC, single and three phase AC circuits, and perform "PM" inspections.
  • General knowledge and/or understanding of station high voltage switching and relaying equipment.
  • Demonstrated experience with general electrical and mechanical abilities for equipment repair, replacement, station mechanical operations and minor modification projects required.
  • General knowledge and/or understanding of Instrumentation calibrations
  • Demonstrated effective verbal/written communication skills.
  • Must pass the POSS/MASS exam.
  • Position can be filled at level I, II, III or IV depending on experience and skill.

Desired Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated experience maintaining with 480 V electrical equipment.
  • Demonstrated experience maintaining with 4160 V electrical equipment.
  • Demonstrated experience maintaining with 18 KV electrical equipment.
  • Demonstrated experience maintaining with 525 KV electrical equipment.
  • Demonstrated experience maintaining, calibrating and troubleshooting of instrumentation, controls preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience with combined cycle plant process and equipment is preferred.
  • Two year Electrical/Mechanical Technology Degree
  • Prior GE 7FA Combustion turbine experience is preferred
  • Prior GE D11 Steam turbine experience is preferred
  • Demonstrated experience in proper rigging, signaling and crane/hoist operations
  • Demonstrated experience in the use of hand tools and standard technical shop test equipment, (powerhouse shop equipment, I&E test instruments, volt/ohm meter, etc.)
  • Demonstrated experience in operating electric plant water treatment systems
  • Demonstrated experience in mechanical maintenance on all powerhouse equipment such as air compressors, heat exchangers, piping, turbines, valves, etc.
  • Demonstrated experience in microprocessor based systems, i.e., distributed control systems, programmable logic controllers, smart relays, smart transmitters, station databases & workstations; as well as computers software such as database, spreadsheet, and word processing programs

Specific Requirements:
  • Requires ability to visually read and respond to computer-generated data, instrumentation, gauges, readouts, and variations in color; requires ability to read and comprehend mechanical and electrical drawings specifically P&IDs. Must possess the manual dexterity required to operate keyboards, push buttons, dials, valves, and mechanically actuated devices.
  • Must be familiar with appropriate personal protection techniques and safety procedures such as lock out/tag out and personal protective equipment.
  • Must pass respiratory physical and wear all required safety equipment when required.
  • Must possess team awareness skills and team relationship skills.

Working Conditions:
  • Station environment includes but not limited to temperature extremes, high noise levels, dust, fumes, confined space, climbing, lifting, and working around pressurized and energized equipment and tight work spaces
  • Overnight travel may include traveling between other stations or for training
  • Overtime work will be call-outs, work past or prior to regular schedules and on an "as needed" basis and is routinely required
  • Weekend work may be required
  • Working hours will be determined by the site management
  • Ability to walk, bend, stoop, kneel, push, pull, climb ladders, work in extreme heat or cold, lift up to 50 pounds, walk/work on grating surfaces at extreme heights and work in confined spaces, tight work areas
  • Must be able to attend on-site and off-site training
  • Must have a valid driver license and be able to operate stations vehicles & heavy equipment
