Position: Plant Superintendent
Location: Lethbridge, Alberta
Position Type: Full-Time Salary - Exempt

About the Position
The plant Superintendent is responsible for providing operational leadership and oversight to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable plant operations within an assigned area. This role leads frontline supervisors, production teams, and operational activities to achieve business objectives related to safety, quality, productivity, cost management, and customer service. The Superintendent plays a critical role in driving operational excellence by optimizing processes, developing talent, improving equipment reliability, and ensuring compliance with ADM standards and regulatory requirements.

This position serves as a key link between plant leadership and daily operations, ensuring that production goals are achieved while fostering a culture of safety, accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership and direction to production teams, supervisors, and hourly employees to achieve operational goals and performance targets.
  • Ensure safe work practices and compliance with ADM safety policies, procedures, and applicable regulations.
  • Lead daily operations by monitoring production performance, resolving issues, and ensuring effective execution of production plans.
  • Manage operational activities to achieve production volume, quality, efficiency, and cost objectives.
  • Collaborate with Maintenance, Engineering, Quality, Safety, and Supply Chain teams to improve reliability and operational performance.
  • Analyze production metrics, identify improvement opportunities, and implement corrective actions to enhance productivity and reduce losses.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives using Lean Manufacturing, operational excellence, and problem-solving methodologies.
  • Monitor equipment performance and partner with Maintenance teams to address reliability issues and minimize downtime.
  • Ensure compliance with quality standards, food safety requirements, environmental regulations, and operational procedures.
  • Lead investigations related to safety incidents, quality concerns, production disruptions, and process inefficiencies.
  • Support production scheduling and resource planning to optimize workforce utilization and plant performance.
  • Develop and maintain effective communication routines, including shift meetings, production reviews, and performance updates.
  • Coach, mentor, and develop supervisors and employees to strengthen technical capability, leadership skills, and succession readiness.
  • Support workforce planning, training initiatives, performance management, and employee engagement activities.
  • Participate in capital projects, process improvements, equipment upgrades, and operational transformation initiatives.
  • Manage operational costs, including labor, materials, waste reduction, and resource utilization.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, teamwork, respect, and continuous improvement across the operation.


Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Post-secondary education preferred. Equivalent combination of education, technical training, and manufacturing leadership experience will be considered.
  • Minimum 5-8 years of progressive experience in manufacturing, production, operations, or industrial environments.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience managing production teams, supervisors, or frontline employees.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, equipment operations, production planning, and operational performance management.
  • Experience driving safety performance, quality improvements, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Strong knowledge of root cause analysis, problem-solving methodologies, and process improvement practices.
  • Ability to interpret production data, operational metrics, and financial performance indicators.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence across all levels of the organization.
  • Proven ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced production environment.
  • Experience with employee development, coaching, and performance management.
  • Strong understanding of maintenance reliability principles and equipment optimization is preferred.
  • Experience in food processing, grain handling, flour milling, oilseed crushing, feed manufacturing, or other continuous manufacturing environments is highly preferred.
  • Knowledge of safety management systems, quality programs, and regulatory requirements.
  • Ability to work flexible schedules, including support for 24/7 operations as required.
