Job Summary
Plant Manager is responsible for overseeing the operations of a specific plant or production facility. Duties include managing production schedules, ensuring quality control standards are met, optimizing production processes, managing plant personnel, and ensuring compliance with safety and environmental regulations. Develops and implements strategies to improve plant efficiency, reduce costs, and increase productivity. Collaborates with other departments to meet production goals and objectives. May also be responsible for budgeting, forecasting, and reporting on plant performance.

Essential Functions
• Must be able to present complex information in a clear and concise manner.
• Ensure that production levels are at an optimum with minimum plant downtime. Coordinate by-size production with sales market demands and long range planning.
• Work closely with the quality control technicians to ensure that all production meet the customers needs.
• Proper utilization and maintenance of all stationary and mobile equipment so that equipment cost and downtime are minimized and the equipment is available when needed.
• Participates in developing an annual operating budget which includes production volume and capital improvements.
• Responsible for ensuring that the site meets or exceeds operating budget.
• Works with sales on identification and elimination of customer issues and concerns to improve customer satisfaction and relations.
• Works on the implementation of cost saving programs and/or continuous improvement activities to reduce costs and improve operating efficiency.
• Manages daily production meetings on the daily running and operations of the plant.
• Be proactive in the safety of all personnel and activities in the plant area. Inspect and maintain dust control systems to ensure a healthy work environment.
• Be knowledgeable of waste products, their impact on the environment and their proper disposal.
• Works with SHE Regional employees and Company officials to promote a safe work environment that meets all State and Federal rules and regulations.
• Maintain proper levels of inventories to support local sales activities and long range market demands.
• Work closely with the QC Technician onsite to ensure we maintain consistency in the quality of our products and services to the customer.
• Works closely with Sales staff and customers to ensure that products meet customer needs and expectations.
• Manage financial decisions for the plant, including budgets, forecasts, inventory management, and labor and capital planning to ensure adherence to all budgets and financial goals.
• Seek improvement activities to reduce costs and improve operating efficiency across the plant.
• Initiates action for environmental permits and prepares reports for various public agencies and coordinates with Legal Department or outside legal counsel or regulating agencies on compliance issues.
• Utilizes appropriate resources and recommendations in community relations and legislative efforts and actively participates in the area's community outreach and educational programs.
• Provide an example of good leadership, keep open, an effective lines of communication with division staff and plant level personnel.
• Provides coaching and disciplinary counseling to employees under his or her area of responsibility (includes employee relations and administration of collective bargaining agreements region specific).
• Identifies, assesses, prioritizes, and resolves production and employee related problems.
• Manages and supervises activities of hourly production and maintenance employees.
• Approves the selection, hiring, training, change of status and separation of employees.
• Insures that employees receive proper training and instructions to perform assigned job duties.

• Safety Awareness- Ability to recognize, understand, and adhere to safety protocols and procedures in the workplace; proactive in identifying potential hazards, taking steps to mitigate risks, and ensuring that both personal and collective safety are maintained in all tasks and environments.
• Leadership Skills: Acts decisively and supports all aspects of the company to work together to accomplish objectives, vision, mission and values of Vulcan. Trusts and allows people to do their job, holding them accountable for the full extent of their responsibilities.
• Planning and Scheduling: Effective planning of repair procedures, scheduling work considering resource availability, and maintaining necessary inventory.
• Processing Knowledge- Understands the material flow, crushing, screening and stockpiling process of an aggregate operation. Understands how to adjust plant settings for optimal production efficiency and troubleshoot inefficiencies.
• Communication- Communicates clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing, while actively listening and adapting the message to the audience.
• Financial acumen - Understanding the meaning and implications of key financial indicators. Applying financial analysis to generate, evaluate, and act on strategic options and opportunities. Integrating quantitative and qualitative information to make better business decisions and draw accurate conclusions.

Responsibilities

Education
• High School Diploma required.
• BS / BA degree, Associates degree, or an equivalent combination related field and work experience preferred.

Experience
• Minimum of 5 years prior work experience in supervising production employees preferably at either an aggregate, sand/gravel or asphalt plant. Construction materials industry experience preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Knowledge and understanding of modern principles and practices of supervising production employees
• Thorough working knowledge of plant operation (aggregate, asphalt, ready mix) and its associated products, processes and related equipment.
• Knowledge of safety and environmental rules and regulations (MSHA and OSHA).
• Knowledge and understanding of business planning and financial forecasting requirements.
• Knowledge of drilling and blasting.
• Excellent leadership, communication, organization, conflict resolution skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Google, Oracle Business Environment and other software packages relevant to the position.
• Ability to plan and manage effectively using motivation and team building skills.
• Good organization skills, excellent problem solving skills and practices.
• Flexible to work long hours and travel when needed.
• Must represent Vulcan in a professional manner to all customers, vendors, and internal employees.

Other Requirements
• Must have the ability to lift 50 pounds and to stand, sit and walk for long periods of time.
• Must have the ability to drive a pick-up truck on a daily basis.
• Overnight travel may be required.
• Requires use of computerized equipment and technology.
• Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Position requires ability to work at multiple sites depending on business needs.
• Ability to work in a stressful, deadline oriented environment that requires complex, technical information and decision making.
• Must be able to present complex information in a clear and concise manner.
• Work environment will be both indoors in an office and outside in the quarry or plant.
• Employee will perform activities at various heights, around moving machinery, be exposed to dust, fumes and gases; may be required to use hand tools or power tools.
• Outside setting will expose employee to changes in temperature/humidity and will require walking on uneven surfaces.
• Will be required to climb steps, stoop, bend, squat, kneel, crawl or reach above shoulders to accomplish functions of job.
• Position will require ability to operate automobile within plant site as well as on the open road.
