Full Job Description
Job Summary:

The Plant Manager is responsible for all aspects of Plant Operation and Maintenance, including P&L responsibility. Responsible for maintaining a competent, well-trained staff. Responsible for plant safety, training, environmental compliance, policy administration and has purchasing authority for required materials and services. Maintain good relationship with customers and the community. Responsible for supporting and executing Gas Plant Strategy in a dynamic financial climate.

Responsibilities:
  • Supports and emphasizes importance of safety and environmental programs and ensures regulatory compliance
  • Promotes productivity and teamwork with open communication, timely decision making, and use of leadership skills to set high standards of performance, while providing the direction necessary to achieve performance
  • Promotes and supports the development of technical leadership and business skills of employees to carry out responsibilities in a competitive environment
  • Responsible for matrix communications to NRG management and site owners.
  • Provides regular feedback to employees on their performance to allow them to capitalize on their strengths and focus on opportunities for improvement
  • Creates and supports an organizational culture that encourages and rewards employee involvement, innovative thinking, adaptation to change, responsible risk taking, customer focus, and continuous improvement
  • Formulates appropriate strategies which support the overall NRG strategy and manages development, implementation and execution of assigned area goals, objectives, and initiatives
  • Manages all business aspects of assigned area to maximize competitive position of the plant including operational performance, staff development and cost management
  • Responsible for O&M budget development, tracking and control, as well as generating monthly and other reports as required by the owner.
  • Reviews organizational performance with constituents and addresses opportunities for improvement on a regular basis
  • Manages, as necessary, the evaluation and selection of external service providers.
  • Manages work performed by external service providers in support of organizational objectives and responsibilities
  • Assigns work and holds employees accountable for their performance
  • Develops and maintains professional relationships with organizations external to the plant
  • Ensures that appropriate technical expertise related to assigned area of responsibility is available and provided to constituents in a timely manner.
  • Manages development and execution of appropriate standards, guidelines, programs, and procedures within assigned area of responsibility
  • Uses and maintains technical and professional knowledge, shares that knowledge with others, and recognizes/applies new technology in a cost effective manner
  • Obtains and applies knowledge of competitive business practices in daily work activities and decision making
  • Seeks and understands the organizational needs and focuses on meeting and exceeding these requirements
  • Anticipates, accepts and successfully implements necessary changes in the organization and adapts to meet the new requirements
  • Ensure a safe and environmentally compliant workplace
  • Willing to accept accountability for own decisions, performance, and behavior, as well as the performance of assigned staff
  • Must be able to effectively interface with regulatory, political, business, civic and public representatives consistent with NRG corporate objectives


Qualifications:
  • Minimum of Bachelors degree in an Engineering or related technical discipline, and 10 years of equivalent experience in a related technical field; or a minimum of 14 years experience in a related technical field
  • MBA preferred
  • Demonstrated record of successfully leading/supervising employees in a related field
  • Knowledge of Human Resources, Labor and Employee Relations
  • Required to obtain TWIC card for plant entry

Working Conditions
  • Normal office environment and/or power plant environment.
  • Requires operation of a motor vehicle; Texas Driver's License.
  • Work overtime and non-standard working hours as required
  • Requires occasional travel outside service area
  • Occasionally requires wearing personal protective safety equipment (respirators, safety glasses, hard hat, appropriate footwear, ear plugs, etc.)
  • May be required to work around rotating and energized equipment, hazardous materials and chemicals
  • Requires standing, sitting, walking, kneeling, twisting, climbing stairs and ladders, and entering plant equipment.
  • Requires operation of a personal computer
  • Occasionally requires lifting as appropriate to perform duties and responsibilities
