Job Title: PLANT MANAGER (BISON GENERATION STATION)

Job Description:

POSITION PURPOSE

This position is responsible for leading, planning, organizing, and managing the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of the Bison Generation Station (BGS) facility to economically produce electricity to satisfy member needs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Provide technical input for the decision-making process in power plant operation and maintenance. Keep plant staff informed of all aspects of the operation and maintenance of the facility and implement necessary corrective actions.
  • Manage plant operational equipment; develop and maintain plant personnel and equipment safety standards; and develop preventative maintenance procedures and operational procedure manuals.
  • Support the safety program by rigorously assuring standards are enforced and safety is at the forefront of all actions.
  • Work in collaboration with other departments to build and adhere to all project budgets; responsible for developing and adhering to the BGS Long-Range Engineering Plan and the Capital Budget.
  • Supervise the selection, training, development, and supervision of BGS employees.
  • Evaluate the performance of plant section heads reporting to the position, review performance evaluations for all employees, and recommend salary adjustments for plant employees.
  • Direct the development and submission of required reports to assure documentation and communication of plant operations, maintenance, and environmental activities.
  • Authorize all plant purchase request orders and staff timesheets. In addition, review all proposed changes or modifications to plant systems or equipment and proposed tests or research programs.
  • Responsible for staff development to ensure that each section functions safely and efficiently and that they all work together to meet the goals and objectives of Basin Electric, the plant operations division, and the station.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in Energy Management, Business, or an Engineering Accreditation Commission/ Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (EAC/ABET) accredited engineering program; and 10 years of related power generation or petrochemical plant operations, maintenance, or engineering experience; or
  • An associate's degree in Power/Process Plan Technology or related field; and 12 years' experience in power generation or petrochemical plant operations, maintenance or engineering; or
  • A high school diploma or equivalent (GED or HSED); and 14 years' in power generation or petrochemical plant operations, maintenance or engineering.
  • Prior supervisory experience.
  • A valid driver's license.


PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS

This position requires constant sitting; and occasional lifting/carrying up to 50 pounds, pushing/pulling up to 20 pounds, standing, walking, bending, crawling, reaching, and climbing. This position uses office equipment and field tools. This position also requires finger dexterity, good vision/hearing, hand coordination, and the ability to perform close work, analyze data/reports, conduct research, and implement recommendations. This position occasionally works in areas of dirt/dust, fumes, chemicals, extreme heat/cold, vibration, noise, and poor ventilation. This position must be respirator qualified.
