Job Summary

Manages the maintenance functions and assigned personnel in establishing, monitoring, and managing proper maintenance and operating practices. Coordinates training and development of maintenance support personnel. Provides management and supervision of maintenance functions in coordination with Operations.

Essential Job Accountabilities
  1. 40%: Perform on-site fixed equipment maintenance evaluations with maintenance teams to identify maintenance practices needing improvement.
  2. 30%: Provide technical on-the-job skills training for maintenance personnel to improve plant level skills, maintenance, and repair best practices.
  3. 20%: Coordinate with Operations, Central Services, and Engineering personnel for scheduled maintenance and repairs of fixed equipment, as well as capital projects. Provides leadership for Safety, Health and Environmental issues. Develop and improve fixed equipment support and service to operations.
  4. 10%: Manage and analyze fixed department budgeting and monthly cost. Contingency planning to include maintaining critical spares where plausible.

What You'll Do:

Promote Safety. Take an active role in prioritizing safety for yourself and others to ensure all assigned plants have zero accidents and are in total compliance with all Vulcan policies and procedures.

Organize and Plan Maintenance. Plan and schedule the daily maintenance functions in coordination with plant operations. Scheduling of plant maintenance to ensure optimal performance and utilization of plant, equipment, and personnel.

Manage Employee Relations. Provide strong leadership, training, team building, and supervision to all maintenance employees at the plant in order to support the operational function of the business. Work cross-functionally with HR to recruit new employees, provide merit increases, perform disciplinary actions, and evaluate the performance of employees in order to develop talent.

Monitor Processes and Materials. Analyze production in coordination with operations and quality control to ensure a quality product is received by our customers. Monitor operational reports to ensure best practices in processing to ensure effective and efficient maintenance functions. Implement and monitor a preventive maintenance program to limit work stoppages, downtime, or other disruptions.

Maintain Compliance. Build a strong safety culture to ensure the maintenance team is in compliance with Vulcan's safety, operations, and environmental policies and procedures. Manage the health and safety of employees to continuously improve Vulcan's health & safety performance.

Inspect Equipment and Perform Repairs. Manage the organization of the work of employees in the daily inspection and maintenance of the plant to ensure safe, reliable, and compliant operations to maximize production and minimize interruptions.

Skills You'll Need:

Experience. Previous experience in managing and supervising maintenance and production employees at either an aggregate, sand/gravel, or asphalt plant operation.

Leadership and Management Skills. Must be able to provide strong leadership and mentorship to employees, both direct and indirect reports, to motivate and maintain interpersonal relationships.

Operational Knowledge. Must demonstrate knowledge and understanding of rock crushing equipment, MSHA regulations, engineering principles and procedures, and project management skills.

Interpersonal Skills. Must be an excellent motivator and team builder. Must be able to form strong social relationships and effectively communicate.

Financial Knowledge. Must possess knowledge and experience leading financial performance to established targets, meeting or exceeding performance goals.

Working Conditions. Must be able to work outside in all types of weather conditions and tolerate being exposed to loud noises. Must be able to work the second shift with a typical start time of 12:00 PM.

Salary Range: the base salary range for this role is between $118,000 to $125,000 annual salary. This range is not inclusive of our discretionary bonus or equity package. When determining a candidate's compensation, we consider a number of factors, including skillset, experience, job scope, and current market data.
