EthosEnergy O&M is recruiting for a Plant Engineer with high emphasis on Instrument, Controls, & Electrical (IC&E) systems for the ETEC San Jacinto, R.C. Thomas, Woodville, and Entergy Hardin County power generating facilities This position will b be home based in Shepherd, TX. The Plant Engineer IC&E is responsible for leading the day-to-day execution of maintenance, reliability, and continuous improvement of plant control systems and electrical systems across assigned facilities.
This position builds on advanced process controls and electrical engineering expertise. The Plant Engineer - IC&E oversees troubleshooting, system optimization, project execution, contractor coordination, and workforce development to ensure safe, compliant, and reliable plant operation.
Job Responsibilities- Self Leadership
- Prioritize daily, weekly, and outage-related work activities
- Self-develop workforce technical capabilities through structured training programs
- Drive personal safety commitment and promote a strong safety culture
- Coordinate and oversee contractor and vendor activities to ensure quality and compliance Technical Oversight & Troubleshooting
- Lead response to and resolution of critical control system outages and electrical equipment failures to restore generation
- Provide advanced troubleshooting for: o PLC, HMI, and SCADA systems o Electrical circuits, instrumentation, and signal loops o Generator excitation, synchronization, and protection systems
- Direct Technicians and staff on complex technical issues
- Ensure proper maintenance, backup, and version control of PLC/HMI programs and system documentation Engineering & System Reliability
- Lead root cause analysis (RCA) investigations and drive corrective actions
- Ensure accurate documentation of all control system changes and engineering decisions
- Oversee system architecture including PLCs, RTUs, SCADA, and communication networks
- Ensure proper inventory and lifecycle management of control system assets, electrical assets and warranties Project & Contractor Management
- Manage and execute control system upgrades, modifications, and installations Oversee contractor scope, including: o Scope of work development o Commissioning plans o Testing and validation o Review of service reports and deliverables
- Lead project planning activities including schedule, cost, risk, and stakeholder coordination
- Coordinate with plant leadership on capital planning and system modernization Compliance, Standards & Governance
- Ensure compliance with all safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements (NERC, FERC, etc.)
- Maintain accurate documentation, drawings, and system backups
- Ensure adherence to company engineering standards and change management processes
- Support audits, inspections, and regulatory reporting Continuous Improvement & Strategy
- Identify opportunities to improve system reliability and reduce downtime
- Drive standardization across fleet control systems and practices
- Support digital initiatives including data historians, analytics, and remote monitoring
- Collaborate with leadership on long-term IC&E strategy
Required Skills / Knowledge- Proficiency with: o PLC platforms (GE, Allen-Bradley, AutomationDirect, etc.) o SCADA systems (ABB, GE Cimplicity) o Industrial communication protocols (Modbus, DNP3) o RTUs and control system networking (fiber, copper infrastructure)
- Ability to read and interpret: o One-line and three-line diagrams o Logic diagrams and control schematics
- Strong troubleshooting of complex control and electrical systems
- Ability to convert relay logic systems to PLC-based controls
- Strong team leadership and interpersonal skills
- Effective decision-making in critical operational situations
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects simultaneously
- Strong communication across technical and non-technical stakeholders

Experience- Minimum 5+ years of process controls engineering experience in power generation or similar industries
- Proven experience managing projects and contractors
Education Requirements- Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Computer, Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline
Physical Requirements- Work across plant and field environments with exposure to industrial conditions
- Ability to work in all-weather conditions and near high-voltage equipment
- Capable of climbing, lifting (up to 50 lbs), and working in confined or elevated spaces
- Travel to support local regional fleet operations
