Job Summary
The Plant Engineer for the Auto Asphalt Plant is responsible for overseeing the operation, maintenance, and optimization of the asphalt production facility. This role includes managing mechanical and electrical systems, ensuring equipment reliability, troubleshooting and resolving technical issues, and coordinating with maintenance teams to minimize downtime. Implements process improvements, ensures compliance with safety and environmental regulations, and supports the installation and commissioning of new plant equipment to enhance productivity and quality.
Essential Functions
• This position is responsible for manufacturing various asphalt products according to mix design and customer jobsite specifications.
• Performs pre and post shift inspections and reports condition of plant for items needing repair.
• Operates controls to batch material.
• Reads and/or writes delivery tickets to determine mix design called for each load.
• Performs calculations for differing load sizes.
• Loads Hot Mix Asphalt into haul trucks.
• May operates loader to supply material to the plant.
• Shovels aggregate material from area to be repaired or for general housekeeping purposes. Shovels and sweeps spilled materials from walkways.
• Will be involved in repairs to the plant (major and minor) and plant area.
• Performs other duties as directed.

Responsibilities
Education
• High school graduate or equivalent is required. Requires a basic knowledge of specifications of different finished materials and knowledge of the capabilities of equipment.
Experience
• Requires experience to recognize various products by sight and to understand proper plant operation.
• Must have previous experience on various types of heavy equipment.
• Requires a minimum of 2 years of experience in batch plant operation.
• Good mechanical repair, accurate math skills and concise communication skills are required.
• Previous computer experience is preferred.
• One (1) to three (3) years of Plant Operator experience preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Must possess an understanding of the processes and the procedures involved in the production of the various asphalt products.
• Must possess knowledge of the safety and environmental issues and hazards related to asphalt plant operations.
• Requires a basic knowledge of specifications of different finished materials and knowledge of the capabilities of equipment.
• Requires experience to recognize various products by sight.
• Must have previous experience on various types of heavy equipment.
• Basic math i.e. the ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide, and find percentages are required.
• Must have the ability to think logically and problem solve.
• Must possess good perceptual skills used in judging distances, motor skills to operate the plant controls, ability recognizing plant related symptoms of problems, and in recognizing dangers to operate the plant in a safe manner.
• Must have the ability to make sound judgments in order to prevent accidents.
• Good mechanical repair, accurate math skills and concise communication skills are required.
• Must be computer literate. The ability to do trigonometry is a plus.
Other Requirements
• Must have the ability to climb ladders, lift plant components up to 50 pounds, work at heights of up to 100-feet and move in a variety of body positions.
• Ability to operate crane, forklift, and/or skid loader is preferred.
• Must have the ability to work in confined spaces.
• Must be dependable, conscientiousness, and have the ability to pay close attention to detail, and the ability to read and understand instructions.
• Must have the ability to work varying schedules to support customer needs.
