Plant Accounting Manager - Manufacturing

Position Summary

The Plant Accounting Manager serves as a key accounting leader supporting the plant and the Plant Controller. This role is responsible for ensuring timely and accurate financial close processes, maintaining internal control compliance, and owning the integrity of the plant's financial statements.

The position requires a hands-on leader with a strong understanding of cost accounting and inventory valuation methodologies. As a core member of the plant finance team, the Accounting Manager partners closely with operations to drive financial visibility, accountability, and performance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and execute the month-end close process, ensuring accurate and timely completion in a lean team environment
  • Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules
  • Manage inventory accounting, including valuation, reserves, cycle counts, and physical inventory processes
  • Support and maintain standard costing, including cost updates and variance analysis
  • Support internal control processes and ensure compliance with US GAAP
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy
  • Assist with internal and external audits, including preparation of audit schedules and documentation
  • Perform detailed cost analysis, including labor, overhead, and manufacturing variances
  • Prepare recurring and ad hoc reporting for plant leadership and corporate finance
  • Handle a broad range of responsibilities typical of a smaller, hands-on plant environment

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
  • 5-7+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment
  • Strong background in cost accounting, standard costing, and inventory management
  • Experience with manufacturing ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, or similar)
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, and data analysis)
  • Solid understanding of US GAAP and internal controls (SOX experience a plus)
  • Proven ability to manage and execute the month-end close process independently or within a small team
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Effective communicator with the ability to collaborate across functions
  • Self-starter with a strong sense of ownership and accountability
  • Demonstrated ability to improve processes and drive efficiencies
