Position Description Nashville/Davidson County is seeking experienced individuals to join the Land Development and Plan Review Division. It is an exciting time to be a part of a team that is shaping Nashville's future.
Current planning experience for a local government is desired. The Planning Manager 1 will supervise activities of professional, technical, and/or clerical staff working in the Land Development division of the Planning Department.
The Metro Nashville Planning Department is comprised of planners and designers with expertise in land use, architecture, landscape architecture, and urban design. These staff members provide analysis and recommendations throughout Metro Nashville on current planning and development, community planning, and urban design and landscape issues in a wide variety of urban, suburban, and rural contexts. The Land Development Division is responsible for current planning within the 526 square miles that make up Nashville/Davidson County, including review of rezoning requests, application of overlays, site plans, mandatory referrals, and subdivision requests. The Division also manages the bond process and oversees the Planning counter in the Development Services Center.
Typical Duties - Assigns projects to review planners and monitors activity on projects in progress.
- Counsels with and corrects employees as needed.
- Oversees the review of projects submitted to the division.
- Reviews and edits staff reports.
- Reviews and edits council bills and files bills in Legistar.
- Publishes staff reports, agendas, and minutes.
- Coordinates Planning Commission meetings.
- Reviews and assigns pre-application requests.
- Consults with developers and members of the general public about planning related issues.
Minimum QualificationsBachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university and six
(6) years of planning experience.
NOTE: Employees must register for the Metro Human Resources Supervisory Training Program prior to completion of the probationary period or work test and must complete all coursework within a 12-month period.Candidates with accreditations earned in a foreign institute are encouraged to apply.
