Description:Your OpportunityReporting to the Manager, Budget & Planning, the Planning & Budget Officer provides financial planning, budgeting, reporting, analytical, and operational support for the University's budget and financial management processes.
The incumbent is responsible for preparing financial analyses, maintaining budget models, supporting forecasting and reporting activities, developing dashboards and reports, monitoring budget performance, and assisting departments with financial planning and budget administration. The role supports the collection, validation, analysis, and presentation of financial and operational data used in institutional planning and decision-making.
Working closely with the Manager, Budget & Planning, Financial Services staff, and campus stakeholders, the Planning & Budget Officer contributes to the development of annual budgets, long-range financial plans, management reports, and process improvement initiatives. The incumbent also supports the administration of budgeting tools, financial systems, and reporting platforms to ensure the accuracy, integrity, and accessibility of financial information.
QualificationsI. EDUCATION:- University degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Economics, Data Analytics, or a related discipline.
- Professional accounting designation (CPA) completed or in progress is preferred.
II. EXPERIENCE:- Three (3) to five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in budgeting, financial analysis, planning, accounting, or related financial functions.
- Experience preparing financial reports, forecasts, and budget analyses.
- Experience working with financial management systems and large datasets.
- Experience developing reports and dashboards using data visualization tools is preferred.
- Experience in a post-secondary institution, public sector, or similarly complex organization is an asset.
III. SKILLS:- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Proficiency with financial reporting and analysis tools.
- Experience with Power BI, Tableau, or similar reporting platforms.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to explain financial information to non-financial audiences.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Working knowledge of financial controls, budgeting principles, and accounting practices.
- Experience with ERP systems such as SAP, PeopleSoft, FIS, or HRIS is an asset.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
