Your Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Senior Planner / Scheduler to join our Energy & Resources team. This role is responsible for developing, maintaining, analyzing, and optimizing project schedules across complex engineering, procurement, and construction.

The successful candidate will be more than a scheduling specialist, they will serve as a trusted advisor to project managers and project teams, helping drive project execution strategies, identifying risks and opportunities, and supporting informed decision-making throughout the project lifecycle.

This position is ideal for an experienced planning professional with a strong understanding of project delivery, construction methodologies, and project controls within the energy, mining, industrial, power, transmission, renewable energy, or major infrastructure sectors.

This opportunity will require the ability to travel to sites within Canada and the U.S. up to 15-20% of the time.

Key Responsibilities

Project Planning & Scheduling
• Lead the development of integrated project schedules from concept through execution and project closeout.
• Develop engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and startup schedules using Primavera P6.
• Establish schedule logic, critical paths, milestones, constraints, resource requirements, and execution strategies.
• Collaborate with project managers, engineering leads, procurement teams, construction managers, contractors, and clients to develop realistic and achievable project plans.
• Validate project execution strategies and ensure schedules accurately reflect project scope and delivery requirements.
• Establish and maintain baseline schedules and schedule management plans.

Schedule Analysis & Controls
• Maintain and update project schedules based on actual progress and forecast information.
• Perform critical path, float, productivity, and schedule performance analyses.
• Identify schedule risks, constraints, and opportunities and recommend mitigation or recovery strategies.
• Conduct what-if analyses and scenario planning to evaluate alternative execution approaches.
• Assess the schedule impacts of scope changes, delays, productivity issues, and emerging project risks.
• Support change management processes through schedule impact assessments and recovery planning.

Project Controls Integration
• Work closely with project controls, cost controls, and risk management teams to ensure schedule alignment with project objectives.
• Support earned value management, progress measurement, forecasting, and project performance reporting.
• Develop project progress measurement systems and reporting frameworks.
• Participate in risk workshops and contribute schedule-related risk assessments and contingency evaluations.

Stakeholder Engagement & Reporting
• Facilitate schedule review meetings with project teams, contractors, clients, and stakeholders.
• Review and evaluate contractor and vendor schedules for compliance, logic, constructability, and contractual requirements.
• Prepare executive-level schedule reports, dashboards, forecasts, and presentations.
• Clearly communicate schedule status, critical issues, emerging risks, and recommended actions to project leadership.

Leadership & Mentorship
• Provide guidance and mentorship to junior planners, schedulers, and project controls personnel.
• Promote best practices in planning, scheduling, and project controls.
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of scheduling standards, procedures, and tools.

Required Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree or technical diploma in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, Project Controls, or a related discipline.
• Minimum 10 years of planning and scheduling experience supporting large projects.
• Demonstrated experience in Energy & Resources projects, including mining, power generation, transmission and distribution, renewable energy, industrial facilities, oil and gas, or major infrastructure projects.
• Advanced proficiency with Primavera P6.
• Strong understanding of engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and project delivery processes.
• Extensive knowledge of CPM scheduling principles, schedule development, and schedule analysis techniques.
• Experience developing schedules from early project phases through execution and commissioning.

Preferred Qualifications
• PMP, PSP (Planning & Scheduling Professional), AACE certification, or equivalent professional designation.
• Experience with earned value management and integrated project controls.
• Experience reviewing and managing contractor schedules.
• Experience working in EPC, EPCM, owner's representative, or consulting environments.

Pay Range:
• Locations in Lower Mainland - BC, GTA & Ottawa Ontario-$86,900.00 - $126,000.00 Annually

Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
