Job Description

The Planner II (Piping & Mechanical Systems) is responsible for developing and maintaining work packages to support production execution, and for coordinating the implementation of engineering changes. The Planner II ensures scope, materials, and sequencing are aligned to enable efficient production, while minimizing disruption through effective change planning and cross-functional coordination in a dynamic production environment.

Note: Due to business needs, this position is required to be fully on-site at 50 Pemberton Avenue, North Vancouver.

What you'll do
  • Develop, release, and manage work packages and shop orders for piping and mechanical systems across various stages of construction (SOC).
  • Review engineering drawings, 3D models, and vendor data sheets to define scope, sequencing, and production requirements.
  • Plan and coordinate installation of piping systems and mechanical equipment, including propulsion, auxiliary machinery, and deck equipment.
  • Manage engineering change implementation, including impact assessment, sequencing, and schedule alignment.
  • Sequence and prioritize manufacturing, assembly, and installation activities in collaboration with Production and Assembly Planning.
  • Track production progress, maintain ERP data accuracy, and report status, risks, and delays.
  • Liaise with Engineering, Production Control, Supply Chain, and Operations to ensure alignment and resolve planning or production issues.
  • Support Stop Work processes and assess shop order impacts related to engineering changes.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of planning processes, tools, and reporting.
  • Support and mentor junior planners as required.

What you'll bring
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering (mechanical, industrial, naval architecture, or related field), or technical trades certification in piping or mechanical disciplines.
  • 2-4 years of experience in production planning, mechanical engineering, production engineering, or trade-related roles, preferably in shipbuilding or heavy manufacturing.
  • Experience with piping systems, mechanical equipment, and shipboard systems is required.
  • Advanced certifications (Red Seal, PMP, Lean Six Sigma) are considered an asset.
  • Meet requirements for Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP) and Secret clearance.
  • Experience with ERP systems (e.g., IFS or Oracle) and CAD tools (e.g., AutoCAD, Cadmatic).
  • Strong understanding of shipbuilding processes, production sequencing, and construction methodologies.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, build strategies, Bills of Materials, and equipment data sheets.
  • Proficiency in ERP systems (IFS/Oracle), planning tools (Primavera P6/MS Project), and advanced Excel. Experience with ARAS or Jira is an asset.
  • Knowledge of material planning, inventory management, and supply chain processes.
  • Understanding of configuration control, engineering change workflows, and change management principles.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to resolve planning and production issues.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills to coordinate across engineering, production, and supply chain teams.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, work independently, and maintain attention to detail while meeting schedule objectives.
  • Ability to work effectively in a dynamic, fast-paced, and constantly changing production environment.
  • Comfortable working in both office and shipyard production floor environments.

The estimated salary for this position is $84,600 - $103,400. In determining final salary, Seaspan considers many factors including the successful Candidate's skills and experience as well as position location and internal equity. The final base salary offer will be at the Company's sole discretion and presented as part of a competitive total compensation package.
