Job Title: Pipeline Engineer II

Department: Engineering

Reports To: Lead Pipeline Engineer

Location: Houston, Texas

Summary:

A Pipeline Engineer II (PPE II) applies developing expertise to a variety of pipeline engineering tasks for midstream/facilities oil & gas projects. This role involves taking on more responsibility for specific pipeline designs and calculations, conducting detailed analyses, and contributing significantly to project deliverables. This position performs more independent work while still benefiting from senior guidance.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Development of detailed pipeline alignment sheets, plan & profile drawings, and facility layouts.
  • Performance of detailed hydraulic and surge analyses for liquid and gas pipelines.
  • Selection and specification of pipeline materials, valves, fittings, and specialty items.
  • Design of pipeline components such as pig launchers/receivers, mainline valves, and relief systems.
  • Assistance in the development of construction specifications for pipeline installation (e.g., trenching, backfilling, welding).
  • Ensuring all pipeline designs comply with applicable industry codes, standards (e.g., ASME B31.4, B31.8, API 1104), and client requirements.
  • Coordination of pipeline design aspects with surveying, geotechnical, environmental, and land teams.
  • Participation in HAZOP, LOPA, and other safety reviews related to pipeline systems.
  • Some travel may be required.


Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Solid understanding of pipeline design principles, construction methods, and integrity management concepts.
  • Knowledge of hydraulic simulation software and CAD design software.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel).
  • Strong understanding of industry codes and standards (e.g., ASME B31.4, B31.8, API 1104, DOT regulations).
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks.
  • Team player - able to communicate and relate well with others.


Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Occasional lifting of office supplies or equipment up to 20 pounds.
  • Ability to move around the office for daily tasks and meetings, and job site visits, when required.
