Qualifications

• Master of Science in Nursing or Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies required
• Minimum 1 year of surgical first assisting experience required, preferably in cardiac surgery
• For Nurse Practitioners: CSFA, RNFA, or equivalent surgical first assist experience preferred
• Knowledge of cardiopulmonary physiology and critical care management essential
• Demonstrated strong clinical judgment and critical thinking skills
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills in a high-pressure academic environment

Responsibilities

• Function as a first assist in complex cardiac surgical procedures
• Provide comprehensive care to patients undergoing congenital cardiac surgery across inpatient and perioperative settings
• Perform preoperative evaluations, consultations, and educate patients and families on surgical procedures
• Participate in daily rounds in the Cardiac ICU and respond to urgent clinical situations
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop postoperative care plans
• Support discharge planning for a smooth transition of care
• Contribute to a culture of safety and continuous improvement in a specialized cardiac program
