Overview

Founded in 1947, South Bend Orthopaedics (SBO), a proud partner of OrthoAlliance, provides specialized care for musculoskeletal surgery, orthopedic rehabilitation and the treatment of sports and work-related injuries. SBO has served northern Indiana and southwest Michigan for decades and has been the orthopaedic surgeons for the University of Notre Dame Athletics Department since 1949. Services include joint replacement, sports medicine, upper and lower extremity surgery, pain management, imaging and physical and occupational therapy. With 20 physicians and a team of advanced practitioners, SBO delivers comprehensive orthopedic care across multiple locations. As part of OrthoAlliance - an organization within SCA Health - SBO is connected to a broader network dedicated to advancing patient care and expanding access to quality-driven orthopedic services.

Responsibilities

Evaluates and treats patients with musculoskeletal injuries, conditions and disabilities through the use of various physical modalities, therapeutic exercises and therapeutic procedures in accordance with the physician's orders and department policies.

Essential Functions
  • Assesses, consults with physician, develops plan of care and goals with patient. Provides treatment based on physician's orders.
  • Utilizes electronic health records efficiently and effectively to complete evaluations, daily notes and physician progress reports in a timely manner.
  • Observes and reassesses the patient's condition and recommends appropriate changes to the plan of care.
  • Instructs patients in home exercise programs.
  • Operates within safety, infection and environmental control policies and procedures for physical therapy.
  • Fits, instructs in use and dispenses assistive devices appropriately based on patient's needs to ensure safe ambulation and transfers.
  • Fits and instructs patients in the use and care of durable medical equipment as prescribed by the physician, and accurately completes paperwork for billing.
  • Provides coverage at other SBO locations as needed.
  • Stays current in their respective field through reading professional literature and attending continuing education offerings, etc.
  • Attends meetings and in-services as required.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality.
  • Performs related work as required.
  • Supervises and reviews physical therapy assistant treatments and documentation. Co-signs and submits fee slips accurately and in a timely manner.


Qualifications

Education: B.S., M.S., or Ph.D in an accredited physical therapy program. Registered as a physical therapist and licensed in the state of Indiana.

Experience: Minimum of two years physical therapy experience preferred. New graduates are considered.
