Hours: 8:00 AM - 3:30 PM

Compensation: Codman Academy Charter Public School follows a compensation scale based on years of direct experience. 1 year experience starts at $62,000, with 13 years direct experience (MA15) starting at $121,504 annually.

Position Overview

Codman Academy Charter Public School seeks a dynamic K-12 Physical Education (PE) Teacher to lead a high-quality, inclusive physical education program aligned with the Open Physical Education Curriculum (OPEN PE). The ideal candidate will foster a love for movement, teamwork, and lifelong fitness, while promoting physical, social, and emotional well-being. The PE teacher will provide developmentally appropriate instruction, incorporating skills-based learning, cooperative activities, and health-focused fitness strategies for students across all grade levels.

Key Responsibilities

Curriculum & Instruction
  • Design and implement engaging, standards-based PE lessons using the OPEN PE Curriculum, emphasizing skill development, teamwork, and fitness.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners, including students with disabilities and English Language Learners (ELLs).
  • Foster a safe, inclusive, and positive learning environment that encourages student participation and personal growth.
  • Integrate social-emotional learning (SEL) strategies to support students' self-regulation, cooperation, and resilience.
  • Assess student progress using formative and summative assessments, focusing on skill mastery, effort, and personal fitness goals.

Health & Wellness Promotion
  • Promote lifelong health, fitness, and wellness by educating students on physical activity, nutrition, and healthy lifestyle choices.
  • Implement activities that emphasize movement exploration, cardiovascular fitness, strength training, and flexibility across all grade levels.
  • Encourage teamwork, sportsmanship, and personal goal-setting through structured activities and cooperative games.

Collaboration & School Engagement
  • Work closely with classroom teachers, special educators, and school counselors to integrate physical education with broader learning goals.
  • Organize school-wide fitness events, field days, and intramural activities to engage students in physical activity beyond the classroom.
  • Build strong relationships with students, families, and colleagues to promote a culture of health and wellness throughout the school.
  • Maintain inventory of PE equipment and ensure a safe environment for all activities.

Qualifications & Experience

Required:
  • Bachelor's degree in Physical Education, Kinesiology, Health Education, or a related field.
  • Massachusetts teaching certification in Physical Education (PreK-12).
  • Experience teaching PE in a K-12 setting with diverse student populations.
  • Strong knowledge of child development, motor skills, and differentiated instruction.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor to support student learning and overall school success.

Preferred:
  • Experience implementing the Open Physical Education (OPEN PE) curriculum.
  • Background in adaptive physical education to support students with disabilities.
  • Knowledge of restorative practices, SEL integration, and trauma-informed teaching strategies.
  • CPR and First Aid Certification.

Salary Range: Based on CACPS scale
