Summary of Performance Expectations.
Responsible for overseeing the procurement, storage, preparation and dispensing of all medications in the organization. Effectively manages all physical and human resources in the pharmacy to meet compliance with medical center policies, state and federal law, and accreditation and regulatory requirements. Ensures optimal pharmacy services, facilitates safe medication use, develops and enforces policies, standardizes procedure and practice, and directly supervises all pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and personnel involved in the dispensing process. Approves staff schedules and PTO requests. Provides orientation to new employees, competency assessments, problem-solving, mentoring, annual evaluations, and disciplinary action within the department with the assistance of the Clinical Pharmacy Manager. Ensures compliance with medical center policies, procedures and protocols along with all state and federal regulatory agencies and laws. Ensures compliance with Joint Commission/CMS medication standards; NCBOP/DEA rules, USP 795/797/800 compliance regulations and laws. Assists in the development, provision and evaluation of pharmaceutical care services as needed and oversees the direct dispensing of medications daily as needed.
Education and Credentials:
Required
Baccalaureate degree in Pharmacy. Currently licensed in North Carolina as a pharmacist.
Preferred
PharmD with Residency or Master's degree.
Work Experience:
Required
Five years of medical center based pharmacy experience, including managerial and administrative responsibilities.
Preferred
Five years of experience as a pharmacy manager in a health care organization.
