Full Job Description
Senior Sterile Compounding Pharmacist
503A Operations, Quality & Expansion

Location: Greater St. Louis / St. Charles County, Missouri
Employment Type: Full-Time, On-Site
Compensation: $200,000+ Base Salary, Performance Bonus, and Long-Term Profit-Sharing Opportunity

BrightMeds is seeking an experienced sterile compounding pharmacist to help launch and scale a new 503A pharmacy in the Greater St. Louis area.

You do not need to have previously served as a Pharmacist-in-Charge or personally opened a sterile pharmacy. You do need meaningful, hands-on experience working in a 503A sterile compounding environment and a strong understanding of what safe, compliant, and efficient sterile operations should look like.

You will work closely with BrightMeds' founders, designated Pharmacist-in-Charge, pharmacy consultants, technology team, and other pharmacy personnel to develop the systems, workflows, quality standards, and team needed to serve patients responsibly.
What You Will Do
Sterile Compounding and Quality
  • Help establish safe and compliant sterile compounding operations under USP and applicable USP requirements
  • Develop, review, and improve standard operating procedures, batch records, training materials, and quality documentation
  • Support personnel training, qualification, observation, and competency programs
  • Help oversee aseptic technique, environmental monitoring, cleaning, disinfecting, contamination control, and sterility-assurance practices
  • Participate in deviation investigations, corrective and preventive actions, change control, complaints, recalls, and continuous quality improvement
  • Help maintain inspection and audit readiness
  • Identify quality risks and recommend practical solutions before they become larger problems
Pharmacy Launch and Operations
  • Help evaluate cleanroom layouts, equipment, vendors, supplies, technology, and production workflows
  • Support the development of staffing, inventory, purchasing, production, and capacity plans
  • Help recruit, train, and develop pharmacists and pharmacy technicians
  • Participate in a controlled, quality-led production launch
  • Identify production bottlenecks and improve efficiency without compromising quality
  • Help establish meaningful quality, production, staffing, and operational metrics
  • Work with BrightMeds' technology team to improve pharmacy software, automation, documentation, and reporting
  • Help build repeatable systems that can support future pharmacy locations
Licensing and Regulatory Expansion
  • Work with the PIC, consultants, legal counsel, and company leadership on Missouri pharmacy licensing and inspection readiness
  • Support nonresident pharmacy applications, renewals, documentation, and state-specific compliance requirements
  • Help organize licensing records, policies, inspection materials, and regulatory correspondence
  • Monitor regulatory changes and assist with implementing required operational updates
  • Support BrightMeds' long-term multi-state expansion strategy

Direct experience obtaining nonresident pharmacy licenses is highly valued, but it is not required for this role.
Required Qualifications
  • PharmD, BSPharm, or equivalent degree from an accredited school or college of pharmacy
  • Active, unrestricted pharmacist license in at least one U.S. state
  • Missouri pharmacist license or ability to obtain one before beginning on-site pharmacy work
  • Direct experience working in a 503A sterile compounding pharmacy
  • Strong working knowledge of USP and applicable USP requirements
  • Practical experience with aseptic technique, sterile workflows, documentation, and quality-control procedures
  • Experience following or helping improve sterile compounding SOPs and quality systems
  • Strong attention to detail, reliability, communication, and professional judgment
  • Willingness to work on-site in the Greater St. Louis or St. Charles County area
Highly Valued Experience

The following experience is helpful but not required:
  • Leading, supervising, or training sterile compounding personnel
  • Preparing for pharmacy inspections, audits, or regulatory reviews
  • Developing or improving a pharmacy Quality Management System
  • Multi-state nonresident pharmacy licensing
  • Holding pharmacist licenses in multiple states
  • Cleanroom certification, commissioning, qualification, or operational planning
  • Missouri Class H pharmacy experience
  • Board Certified Sterile Compounding Pharmacist certification
  • Scaling sterile production or improving pharmacy workflows
  • Pharmacy startup or new-location launch experience
  • Automation, software, or pharmacy-technology implementation

Prior PIC experience and prior experience opening a sterile pharmacy are not required.
The Person We Are Looking For

You may be a strong fit if you:
  • Understand how a well-run 503A sterile pharmacy should operate
  • Take patient safety, documentation, and regulatory compliance seriously
  • Notice problems that others miss
  • Follow through without needing constant supervision
  • Can explain quality or operational concerns clearly and directly
  • Enjoy improving systems and making complicated processes more reliable
  • Work well with pharmacists, technicians, consultants, technology teams, and company leadership
  • Are willing to respectfully challenge a decision when quality, compliance, or patient safety is at risk
  • Want greater responsibility and influence than you may have in a traditional sterile pharmacist role

We are not looking for someone who is learning sterile compounding for the first time. We are looking for someone who has worked inside a 503A sterile operation and can help us build one correctly.
First-Year Priorities

During your first year, you will help:
  • Finalize sterile workflows, equipment, documentation, and operating procedures
  • Establish the pharmacy's SOP and Quality Management System infrastructure
  • Prepare the pharmacy and team for licensing, inspections, and launch
  • Recruit and qualify the initial sterile compounding team
  • Support a controlled production ramp
  • Establish quality and operational performance metrics
  • Improve production capacity while protecting quality
  • Begin supporting BrightMeds' multi-state licensing roadmap
  • Create systems that can eventually be replicated across additional pharmacy locations
Compensation and Long-Term Opportunity

This position includes:
  • $200,000+ base salary
  • Performance-based annual bonus
  • Long-term profit-sharing opportunity
  • Direct access to company founders and senior leadership
  • Meaningful influence over pharmacy operations, technology, quality, and growth
  • Increasing leadership responsibility as BrightMeds expands
  • Potential advancement into senior pharmacy leadership or a future PIC position for a qualified candidate who wants that path
