Purpose of Position: Prepare medications prescribed by physician, or other authorized prescribers for nursing facilities and behavioral healthcare center residents in a manner that maximizes quality and patient safety as regulated by Tennessee State Law, CMS, DEA and nursing facility guidelines.
Description of Required Duties and Tasks:
Essential duties and responsibilities include the following.

  • Prepare medications by reviewing and interpreting prescribed medications orders, detecting therapeutic incompatibilities.
  • Direct and verify pharmacy technician order fulfillment; verifying their order entry data, medication preparation and labeling of pharmaceuticals
  • Correspond with lead pharmacy technician on daily RX capacity to ensure effective workflow and efficient medication delivery
  • Provide pharmacological information to facilities and other health care professionals on drug interaction, side effects, dosage and storage of pharmaceutical's
  • Maintain pharmacy services procedures to ensure quality assurance and security concerning order, delivery and prepacking verification and controlled substance records as required by law
  • Provide after hour on-call coverage as required
  • Communicate information effectively to supervisor and others in a timely matter
  • Maintain proficiency with computer systems
  • Analyze processes and work with employees to develop and implement ways to improve internal and external quality and continually seek ways for improvement
  • Maintain confidentiality of work-related information and materials in compliance with HIPAA regulations
  • Adhere to the principles of the Employee Standards and Code of Conduct and reports any violations
  • Knowledgeable and compliant with current company policies and procedures and state and federal regulations
  • Attends meetings and in-services as required
  • Other duties as assigned


Required Knowledge:

  • Work requires advanced knowledge of geriatric pharmacy, medication dispensing software and practices, CMS and other state/federal regulations

Required Work Experience:

  • One (1) to Three (3) years of pharmacy experience


Preferred Computer Skills:

  • Framework LTC Software System
  • Framework ECM Software System


Certification Requirements:

  • Active Tennessee Board of Pharmacy Pharmacist License
    • Must complete continuing education as required by Tennessee Department of Health


Education Requirements:

  • Graduate of a College of Pharmacy accredited by the American Council on Pharmaceutical Education with a Doctor of Pharmacy degree or equivalent


Additional position information: After hours on-call rotation 1 weekend about every 5-6 weeks and 1 night during the week
