Job Title: People Operations Manager

Location: Must be able to work in our Newton, MA office 2 days per week

Job Type: Full-Time

We're seeking a People Operations Manager to own the systems, processes, and compliance backbone of Alder's People function. This is an exciting role for someone who thrives on getting HR operations right: accurate, compliant, and running smoothly, for a fast growing, multi-state, primarily hourly workforce.

Reporting to the VP, People & Culture, this role will manage the full employee lifecycle from an operations lens, including onboarding/off-boarding, benefits and compensation administration, leaves of absence, HRIS data integrity, compliance readiness, and M&A integration support.

This is an exciting time to join Alder as we scale rapidly across multiple states, still early in a period of massive growth. We're looking for a People Operations Manager to help build the operational foundation that will support us every step of the way.

Key Responsibilities

Onboarding & Off-boarding

  • Own administrative onboarding and offboarding end to end, coordinating cross-functionally with IT, Finance, Payroll, and our insurance broker.
  • Partner with our Sr. Director of Clinical Excellence to run New Hire Orientation.
  • Maintain accurate org charts and position control data.

Benefits & Compensation Administration

  • Serve as the primary liaison for benefits administration across all carriers and plans, including enrollments, renewals, life events, and employee inquiries.
  • Manage annual open enrollment planning and execution with our insurance broker and insurance carriers.
  • Own benefits-related compliance documentation and reporting (ACA, plan filings, etc.).
  • Troubleshoot and resolve employee benefits issues, escalating to carriers/our insurance broker as needed.
  • Establish and maintain pay bands, monitoring market competitiveness and coordinating benchmarking.
  • Administer annual performance and merit review cycles, including timelines, systems configuration, and data accuracy.

HRIS & Data Management

  • Own HR systems and data integrity (Rippling HRIS), ensuring automation, reporting, and compliance across states.
  • Maintain the multi-state employee handbook and HR policies, ensuring clarity and compliance.
  • Build and maintain PTO/time-off policies in Rippling, assigning employees to correct policies based on role, state, and tenure.
  • Manage annual PTO calendar year transitions, including balance rollovers, accrual resets, and carryover compliance with state law.

Leave of Absence Administration

  • Administer and track all leaves of absence (PFMLA, FMLA, ADA, state sick time laws), ensuring documentation, consistency, and manager guidance.
  • Stay current on multi-state leave law changes and update processes accordingly.

Payroll Partnership

  • Partner with Payroll to ensure accuracy, compliance, and a seamless employee experience, including dual pay rate and multi-state wage requirements.

Compliance & Audit Readiness

  • Support audit readiness (I-9, ACA, EEO) and maintain compliance records.

M&A Support

  • Support HR due diligence for prospective acquisitions, reviewing target company HR systems, policies, benefits, and compliance posture.
  • Lead operational integration of acquired employees: HRIS migration, benefits transition, payroll alignment, and policy harmonization.
  • Maintain M&A HR integration playbooks/checklists to support repeatable, low friction transitions as Alder scales.

About You

  • 5+ years of progressive HR operations experience, including multi-state environments.
  • Experience working with a heavy hourly non-exempt employee population.
  • Proven track record owning HR systems, benefits administration, and leave management in a scaling organization.
  • Experience establishing pay bands and working with compensation benchmarking tools/methodology (e.g., market surveys, salary.com, Payscale, or similar).
  • Strong working knowledge of HR compliance across onboarding, wage and hour, and leave law.
  • Skilled in HRIS platforms (Rippling is a plus) and comfortable working in the data/systems layer of HR.
  • Detail-oriented, process-minded, and able to manage multiple compliance deadlines at once.
  • Experience supporting M&A integration, or comfort working through ambiguous, fast moving transition projects, is a plus.
