Description

The Children's Home of Pittsburgh is seeking a Full-Time Physician Assistant (PA) that is willing to rotate both days and nights.

The PA will provide patient care services, including assessing and managing patients in the inpatient environment, by following established standards and practices. The PA will provide care to neonates, infants and children from birth to 21 years of age and must have a PA license to practice in Pennsylvania. This position will rotate both days and nights working three 12 hour shift one week and three 12 hour shifts and one 8 hour shift the next week, totaling 80 hours every pay period.

Requirements

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  1. Perform complete physical exams and obtains complete medical history and records findings.
  2. Order appropriate laboratory and diagnostic procedures.
  3. Interpret and integrate data to determine preliminary diagnosis and therapeutic plan.
  4. Prescribe medications in compliance with state law.
  5. Provide support as well as information regarding patient's condition, progress, and plan of care to parents/family, referring and consulting physicians.
  6. Instruct patient/family regarding medications and treatments. Educate patients regarding health and illness prevention. Recommend community resources to meet patient and family needs.
  7. Provide continuity of patient care in collaboration with other health care professionals as appropriate.
  8. Initiate or complete administrative tasks and acquires all necessary information, instructions, and materials as required.
  9. Participate in activities that contribute to education and research.

MINIMUM SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
  1. Successful completion of an approved physician assistant program required.
  2. Possess current licensure to practice in the State of Pennsylvania.
  3. Possess 2 years of experience as a Pediatric Physician Assistant
  4. Ability to obtain prescriptive authority in the State of Pennsylvania. This must be completed within 90 days of hire.
  5. Analytical ability to evaluate patient care and assists in the development of policies and procedures.
  6. Interpersonal skills necessary to effectively interact with medical staff, family members and all levels of personnel of The Children's Home of Pittsburgh.
  7. Emotional and mental ability to perform effectively and efficiently under the daily pressures of stressful and/or emergency situations.

FUNCTIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
  1. Partially active and partially sedentary position.
  2. Must be physically able to access the patients in The Children's Home of Pittsburgh and also be able to sit for long periods of time.
  3. Must be able to push, pull, lift and carry 10-50 pounds as required to access medical equipment, file boxes, supplies, etc.
  4. Ability to interact and communicate in a professional and courteous manner with other staff and guests.
  5. Manual dexterity necessary to operate medical equipment, computer, telephone system, and other equipment typically found in The Children's Home of Pittsburgh environment.


Salary Description

$115,000 - $142,000 per year
