Job Summary:

The Test Solutions (TS) Engineering Center is seeking a Section Leader. As a Section Leader you will lead Mechanical Engineering professionals responsible for all elements of mechanical engineering design through all lifecycles to include but not limited to development, transition to production, design verification, qualification, and manufacturing acceptance of final product going to the customer.

What You Will Do:

You will supervise and lead a team of approximately 10-20 members. In this role, you will set meaningful, measurable goals and communicate effectively to ensure your team is aligned with both department and directorate objectives. You will conduct formal and informal performance reviews, hold career development discussions, and lead by example while upholding our core Values and Behaviors: Trust, Respect, Collaboration, Innovation, and Accountability. The Section Lead responsibilities are expected to account for roughly 15% of your work week, with the remaining time charged to program contracts within the TS organization.

In addition, you will collaborate with multi-discipline teams on the operation, testing, and troubleshooting of systems. You will perform independent health checks by evaluating program metrics and engage with Program Managers, Chief Engineers, Cross Product Team/Directorate Leads, and other functional leaders to drive results that support program and business unit goals. You will also contribute to Test Equipment Engineering hiring efforts and oversee the onboarding of new section personnel.

This role will require you to work on-site in Tucson, AZ.

Qualifications You Must Have:

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of eight (8) years of relevant professional mechanical engineering experience.


  • Working knowledge of Earned Value Management System (EVMS).


  • Experience in a "Customer" oriented environment.


  • Active DoD issued Secret Clearance


  • Experience in a leadership role.


  • Experience presenting to leadership and peers.


Qualifications We Prefer:

  • Advanced degree in one of the aforementioned disciplines. ABET accreditation preferred.


  • Previous experience with career development and personal skills development of team members


  • Experience developing TE for production test environments


  • Experience with CAD solid modeling tools and analysis tools with an emphasis on ProE / CREO Parametric


  • Experience working in Agile development process


  • Experience working with Program Management principles and tools such as IMS, PMX tools, or tracking books


  • Experience with Proposal Capture Process (development of compliant Basis of Estimates)


  • Experience with Estimate at Complete (EAC) process and Engineering Labor Forecasting (ELF) systems.

The salary range for this role is 107,500 USD - 204,500 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company's performance.

This role is a U.S.-based role. If the successful candidate resides in a U.S. territory, the appropriate pay structure and benefits will apply.
