The Opportunity

Pomeroy Lodging is seeking an experienced Payroll Manager to lead our payroll function and ensure our people are paid accurately, efficiently, and on time.

Based in our downtown Calgary corporate office, the Payroll Manager oversees payroll processing across our organization and ensures the seamless flow of payroll information between Operations, People and Culture, and Finance. This role is responsible for maintaining strong payroll controls, ensuring legislative compliance, improving systems and processes, and developing a knowledgeable and capable payroll team.

The successful candidate will bring strong technical payroll expertise, sound judgment, and a collaborative leadership style. They will be comfortable working in a fast-paced, multi-location organization and will understand the importance of accuracy, confidentiality, and clear communication.
What You Will Do
  • Lead regular payroll processing cycles, ensuring payroll is completed accurately and on time.
  • Oversee payroll processes, controls, procedures, and supporting documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable provincial and federal payroll legislation and reporting requirements.
  • Oversee premium calculations, payments, and payroll-related administration for Workers' Compensation Boards, including WCB and WorkSafeBC.
  • Maintain effective communication with Operations and People and Culture regarding premium costs, claims information, and experience ratings.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential payroll records.
  • Oversee the administration, maintenance, and ongoing improvement of payroll systems.
  • Support payroll system upgrades, implementations, testing, and process changes.
  • Prepare regular payroll reports and analysis for senior leadership.
  • Complete year-end payroll activities and reporting, including the preparation and processing of T4s.
  • Lead, coach, and develop the payroll team while supporting continuous learning and succession planning.
  • Work closely with Operations, Finance, People and Culture, and IT Systems to resolve issues and coordinate payroll-related activities.
  • Support internal and external audits involving payroll, employee benefits, and related records.
  • Partner with People and Culture to ensure accurate benefit enrolment, premium deductions, and record-keeping.
  • Respond to employee and leader payroll questions with professionalism, clarity, and appropriate follow-through.
  • Identify and implement opportunities to improve payroll accuracy, efficiency, controls, and service delivery.
What You Bring
  • A minimum of seven years of progressive payroll experience.
  • At least two years of experience leading and developing people.
  • Post-secondary education in a related field or payroll certification through the National Payroll Institute.
  • Strong working knowledge of Canadian payroll practices, employment standards, and provincial and federal payroll requirements.
  • Proficiency with payroll systems and related technology.
  • Experience supporting payroll reporting, year-end processing, reconciliations, and audits.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and a consistent commitment to accuracy.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • The ability to build effective working relationships across different teams and levels of the organization.
  • The judgment and discretion required to manage sensitive and confidential information.
  • The ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Work Environment

This position is based in Pomeroy Lodging's downtown Calgary corporate office and works regular office hours from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

The role operates in a fast-paced corporate environment, involves the regular use of multiple technology platforms, and requires frequent interaction with employees, leaders, and other internal and external stakeholders.
