Full Job Description
We are in search of a Payroll Manager who will work out of our head office in Burnaby, BC. In this position, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing payroll operations, ensuring compliance, and fostering process improvements. Reporting to the Vice President of Finance and working closely with the Director of Human Resources, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams in Finance, HR, and Operations.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Manage payroll operations for all Business Units at Norland, ensuring consistency and compliance.
  • Handle all aspects of payroll, including legislative compliance, deductions, reconciliations, and more.
  • Coach and guide our payroll staff, fostering their growth and expertise.
  • Act as a liaison with Project Managers, General Managers, and employees as needed to address payroll-related matters.
  • Prepare and analyze monthly payroll reports and conduct statistical analysis to ensure accuracy.
  • Guarantee precise and punctual payroll processing on both pay period and off-cycle bases.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to optimize payroll operations.
  • Oversee and coordinate all year-end updates in our ERP system, working closely with HR to maintain employee pay and deductions.
  • Collaborate on the development of payroll specifications for a new ERP system.
  • Maintain the company's payroll system, ensuring compliance and accuracy by updating tax tables, organizational changes, and union agreements.
  • Oversee and prepare essential documents, such as T4s, ROEs, WCB, RRSP, and hour-bank benefits remittances.
  • Handle unemployment claims, employment verifications, and employee inquiries while providing excellent customer service to various stakeholders.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Preferably 5+ years of experience in supervising payroll functions, including team oversight.
  • Strong understanding of payroll regulatory requirements and Employment Standards provisions in Canada, especially BC and Alberta.
  • Previous experience in a multi-union environment.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with a focus on implementing process improvements.
  • Exceptional time management, organizational, communication, and prioritization skills.
  • A customer-service orientation with an emphasis on building and maintaining relationships.
  • Sound understanding of accounting and human resource principles.
  • Canadian Payroll Manager Designation is preferred.
  • Highly respectful of sensitive and confidential information.

Compensation:

The role is a permanent, full-time position with a typical starting salary range of $98,400 - $123,000 per annum. Variations in final salary are determined by additional factors such as the candidate's qualifications, relevant years of experience, geographic location, and prevailing market conditions for the specific role.
