About the OpportunityOur company-wide Payroll and Benefits team is looking for a skilled Payroll Administrator who brings accuracy, care, collaboration, and a strong service mindset to payroll administration in a multi-jurisdictional environment. In this role, you'll work alongside other team members to ensure that our people are paid accurately and on time - supporting trust, wellbeing, and the smooth operation of our employee-owned organization.
Our company-wide Payroll and Benefits team is comprised of 7 full-time members who collaboratively support, prepare, and process bi-weekly and semi-monthly payroll for our roughly 800 employees located across 18 branches in Alberta, British Columbia, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba. The Payroll and Benefits team is currently based in Kamloops, BC, where Urban Systems was first started.
This position is a full-time in-person role in our Kamloops, Kelowna, or Calgary offices.More specifically, you can expect to be responsible for:
Payroll Operations- Ensuring accuracy and timeliness in the processing of both hourly and salary payrolls
- Assisting in the preparation of periodic and year-end payroll reports and reconciliations
- Maintaining confidentiality of employee records and payroll information
Employee & Team Support- Responding to payroll-related inquiries from employees promptly and professionally
- Investigating and supporting the resolution of payroll discrepancies
- Supporting the accounting team with payroll-related data and documentation as needed
- Collaborating with local Branch Stewardship Teams to provide necessary payroll information and support
- Informal coaching and mentorship of payroll team members
Continuous Improvement- Identifying opportunities for process improvements
- Contributing to the development and implementation of new procedures
- Engaging in continuous learning and professional development to stay current with payroll best practices and regulations
About YouYou are a payroll professional with solid technical knowledge and a collaborative, service-oriented approach. You are detail-oriented, organized, and comfortable working independently within a supportive team environment. You take pride in accuracy, handle confidential information with care, and communicate clearly with employees and colleagues.
Core Qualifications- A minimum of 5 years of experience in a payroll administration role
- Experience working with payroll systems such as UKG (or similar platforms)
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage competing deadlines
- Clear written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
- Demonstrated knowledge of federal/provincial tax laws, labour standards, and statutory deductions
Assets- PCP designation or working toward PCP
- Exposure to multi-jurisdictional payroll environments
- Familiarity with benefits administration
- Experience running payroll for a large employee group (200+ employees)
This position will have a salary range of $75,000.00 to $90,000.00 per year based on a 40-hour work week. The range is negotiable based on your skillset and experience.
