Salary Range: $85,000 - $95,000 annually
Gusmer Enterprises is seeking a detail-oriented and analytical
Payroll Accounting & Tax Analyst to support payroll accounting, tax compliance, and financial reporting activities. This position is ideal for an accounting professional who enjoys reconciliations, problem-solving, and working across multiple functional areas to ensure accurate financial reporting and regulatory compliance.
This role serves as a key link between Human Resources, Payroll, and Accounting and offers the opportunity to expand expertise in payroll accounting, IRS-related compliance, employee benefits and retirement plan compliance, and sales and use tax while contributing to critical financial reporting and compliance functions.
What You'll DoPayroll Accounting & Financial Reporting- Review, reconcile, and post payroll journal entries generated through Paycom
- Reconcile payroll-related balance sheet accounts and investigate variances
- Prepare payroll-related accruals and support month-end close activities
- Ensure accurate payroll expense allocation and financial reporting
- Partner with HR, Payroll, and Accounting teams to maintain data accuracy and resolve discrepancies
Tax & Compliance- Review payroll tax reports and related tax activity generated through Paycom for consistency with payroll records and reporting requirements.
- Coordinate with Corporate Payroll, Paycom, and internal stakeholders to investigate and resolve tax notices, discrepancies, and audit inquiries.
- Support year-end payroll reporting, including Forms W-2, W-3, 1095-C, and 1094-C, by validating payroll data and ensuring the accuracy of supplemental reporting information.
- Reconcile annual wage and tax reporting, including Form W-3, to payroll records and payroll-related financial reporting.
- Assist with payroll-related compliance activities and documentation to support audit readiness and regulatory requirements.
- Support multi-state sales and use tax compliance activities, including validation of taxability, exemptions, filings, notices, and audit support in partnership with internal stakeholders and external advisors.
Benefits, Retirement & Regulatory Compliance- Support compliance activities related to employee benefits, retirement plans, and IRS requirements
- Assist with nondiscrimination testing, Section 125 plans, ACA reporting, and related compliance processes
- Review information, communications, alerts, and guidance provided by third-party administrators, advisors, and vendors to support compliance and reporting requirements.
- Research, interpret, and apply regulatory guidance related to payroll, employee benefits, retirement plans, and tax compliance.
Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in Accounting required
- Three (3) or more years of experience in payroll accounting, accounting, or a related financial reporting function
- Experience with payroll reconciliations, journal entries, accruals, and payroll-related financial reporting
- Working knowledge of payroll tax concepts, including wage taxability, tax notices, and compliance requirements
- Experience with payroll systems such as Paycom or similar HRIS/payroll platforms
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and reconciliation skills
- Advanced Excel proficiency and attention to detail
- Primarily remote position with occasional on-site collaboration and business support requirements
