Purpose and SummaryThe Sheboygan County Sheriff's Office is seeking an experienced law enforcement professional ready to take the next step into leadership as a Patrol Sergeant.
The Patrol Sergeant is a key leader within the Sheboygan County Sheriff's Office, providing guidance, support, and direction to Deputies in the field. From managing complex scenes and coaching employees to coordinating shift operations and stepping into overall shift leadership, this role is an opportunity to lead by example, develop others, and make an impact.
We're looking for a motivated law enforcement professional ready to lead the team, set the standard, and help move the Patrol Division forward.
Essential DutiesThis opportunity is ideal for someone who leads by example, communicates clearly, makes sound decisions under pressure, and takes pride in developing and supporting others. Duties include but are not limited to:
- Provide direct supervision, guidance, and support to Deputies assigned to the shift.
- Serve as an informational and operational resource for Deputies in the field.
- Manage large, complex, or evolving scenes and coordinate personnel and resources as needed.
- Provide overall shift supervision in the absence of the Patrol Shift Commander.
- Review Deputy-generated reports, including citations, arrest reports, crash reports, and offense reports.
- Conduct roll call briefings, issue daily assignments, and assist with scheduling to maintain appropriate staffing levels.
- Participate in the day-to-day training, coaching, and professional development of Deputies.
- Complete performance evaluations and provide meaningful feedback to direct reports.
- Assist the Patrol Shift Commander with short- and long-range planning for the assigned shift.
- Help maintain performance, conduct, appearance, vehicle, and equipment standards.
- Research and apply laws, ordinances, policies, rules, and regulations to support effective shift operations.
- Ensure Division goals, objectives, directives, and departmental expectations are carried out.
- Supervise special events and provide leadership during significant incidents.
- Provide supervisory coverage for the Communications Center when a Communications Supervisor is not scheduled.
- Assist members of the public and appropriately address questions, complaints, bond matters, and other law enforcement needs.
Qualifications - Minimum two-year Associate degree or equivalent relevant work experience.
- Four years of law enforcement experience recommended.
- Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, and effectively manage others in a variety of circumstances.
- Strong operational knowledge and sound decision-making skills.
- Ability to communicate clearly and professionally, both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to effectively provide and receive supervision and feedback.
- Ability to work independently while contributing to a strong team environment.
- Ability to remain composed and make appropriate decisions under stressful conditions.
- Strong commitment to confidentiality, accountability, professionalism, and positive working relationships.
- Self-motivated, dependable, and able to complete assignments effectively with minimal supervision.
Work Environment & Physical RequirementsPatrol Sergeants are assigned to a specific shift and work an 8-hour rotating 6-on/3-off schedule. Overtime may be required based on the operational needs of the Sheriff's Office.
