General Purpose of the Job

The Salesforce Marketing Cloud Solution Architect is a critical execution and stabilization role for the Digital Marketing organization during a period of CRM growth, with increasing need for sophistication across CRM email, SMS, and IVR campaigns. This role brings deep, hands-on Salesforce expertise into the heart of the marketing engine, specifically across data, audience architecture, automation, and personalization.

This is not a conceptual architect or deck-building role; it requires a builder-architect who can, execute strategy for a project within scope, design, configure, and troubleshoot complex Salesforce Marketing Cloud solutions in real time, with a strong command of how data and audiences behave in production. The role serves as connective tissue between business unit, patient marketing strategy leaders, physician marketing strategy leaders, data engineering, email development, and QA, ensuring campaigns are scalable, automated, compliant, and resilient. This is a high-trust, high-impact guest teammate role for someone who thrives in complexity, urgency, and ambiguity.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Salesforce Architecture and Campaign Enablement
  • Design and implement end-to-end Salesforce Marketing Cloud solutions across Email Studio, Journey Builder, Automation Studio, Content Builder, and Audience Builder.
  • Architect scalable campaign frameworks that support high-volume email, lifecycle, and triggered communications.
  • Translate business requirements into practical, buildable Salesforce architectures, including journeys, automations, data extensions, and personalization logic.

Data, Audience, and Personalization Expertise
  • Own audience architecture and segmentation strategy within Salesforce Marketing Cloud, including Data Extensions and relationships, attribute selection, audience logic, suppression, prioritization, and eligibility rules.
  • Partner closely with data and CRM teams to integrate Salesforce core data, CDP/Data 360 inputs, and upstream systems.
  • Design and implement advanced personalization strategies, leveraging AMP script, SQL, SSJS, Automation Studio workflows, and MCP-driven or rules-based personalization models.
  • Delivery speed and confidence improve despite ongoing team change.

Automation and Scale
  • Build and optimize Salesforce automations that reduce manual effort and improve reliability across campaigns.
  • Identify opportunities to standardize and templatize journeys, audiences, and data flows to improve speed and consistency.
  • Independently resolve problems and show persistence despite setbacks when troubleshooting automation failures, data mismatches, and journey issues quickly and independently.

Quality, Risk, and Partnership
  • Act as a technical risk mitigator, identifying architectural weaknesses before they impact live campaigns.
  • Partner tightly with Email Developers and QA Engineers to ensure builds are accurate, testable, and launch ready.
  • Provide hands-on support during high-risk launches, fixes, and escalations.
  • Champions change by providing training, documentation, and knowledge-sharing to help cross-functional partners adopt new Salesforce capabilities and best practices.
  • Provide day-to-day direction, coaching and support to teammates on SFMC best practices.

  • Proven experience with Salesforce automations and complex journeys.
  • Hands-on experience with SQL, AMPscript, and SSJS.
  • Experience with Data Extensions and relational data design.
  • Demonstrated ability to design solutions that work in production, not just on paper.
  • Comfortable operating independently in a fast-moving, ambiguous environment.
  • Strong execution judgment and bias toward action.
  • Experience managing or mentoring junior team members preferred.

How Success Is Measured
  • Demonstrates ownership by setting work goals and managing the technical workstream effectively; Salesforce architectures and automations are stable, scalable, and production-ready.
