JOB SUMMARY
Reporting directly to the Senior Director of Parks and Venues, responsible for providing direction, guidance, and assistance to the various divisions of the Williamson County Parks Department. Assumes responsibilities of the Senior Director of Parks and Venues in their absence.

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED

  • Performs personnel management including hiring, termination, suspension, employee recognition, and disciplinary action
  • Assists the Senior Director of Parks and Venues in research and planning of programs related to the improvement of operations and procedures of the Parks Department
  • Develops short range and long-term plans to meet and facilitate the department's vision and effectively communicates the vision, plans, and goals to division leaders and the public
  • Oversees and directs various programs including the departments volunteer program, conservation activities and other community engagement programs

  • Participates in the County's strategic planning process and provides recommendations on Parks Department related objectives and strategies

  • Provides and creates necessary trainings to park staff on a variety of topics procedures, processes and changes including implementing and educating the public on updated parks rules and regulations
  • Collaborates with the Senior Director of Parks and Venues on capital improvement projects and serves as a project manager on various projects as needed
  • Assists in annual budget process by collaborating with department leadership on equipment needs, park maintenance and other departmental cost for budget development
  • Performs a variety of inventory control and asset management measures to help ensure department resources are properly cared for and managed
  • Responds to and resolves various complex issues related to complaints, compliance, regulation, and policy within various department divisions
  • Prepares and presents presentations to Commissioners Court and other groups or individuals regarding bond projects, contract review, construction projects and other various complex topics related to the Parks department
  • Attends meetings, conferences, workshops, training sessions, and reviews publications to remain current on principles, practices, and new developments
  • Performs special duties as assigned

  • Position involves frequent sitting, standing, walking, climbing, bending, heavy lifting, and operating equipment

  • Indoor and outdoor work in all environments, including inclement weather
  • Regular travel between work sites as required

IRREGULAR HOURS
  • Work outside of the normal office hours (Monday-Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.) may be required
  • Essential personnel for emergency situations; discretion of department director
  • Regular attendance is required

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field and five (5) years related experience, including volunteer services, safety practices and procedures, resource stewardship and conservation, and facility management; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Two (2) years of supervisory and personnel management experience
  • Two (2) years of budget development and management experience

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS

Required within thirty (30) days of employment

  • Valid Texas driver's license

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Five (5) years of increasing responsibility in park administration and operations
  • Certified Parks and Recreation Professional (CPRP)
