Paramedic - Full Time

24-hour and 12-hour Shifts Available

$28.21/hr. - $52.42/hr.

Position Summary

The primary mission of Paramedic is to respond to both emergent and non-emergent requests for service while delivering high-quality, patient-centered advanced life support care. The Paramedic is responsible for providing advanced assessment, treatment, and transport of patients within the paramedic scope of practice while maintaining a strong commitment to clinical excellence, professionalism, and customer service.

Paramedics must demonstrate strong clinical judgment, effective communication, and the ability to operate in high-stress and dynamic environments while maintaining composure and delivering compassionate patient care.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Paramedics may be assigned one or more duties, including but not limited to the following:

Patient Care & Clinical Operations
  • Provide advanced life support (ALS) patient care in accordance with approved scope of practice, medical protocols, and medical direction.
  • Conduct comprehensive patient assessments and provide appropriate treatment and interventions.
  • Continuously monitor patient condition and respond appropriately to changes in patient status.
  • Safely transport patients to appropriate medical facilities.
  • Maintain operational readiness of medical equipment, medications, and supplies.

Documentation & Compliance
  • Complete accurate, clear, and timely patient care documentation in accordance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain communications equipment, medical equipment, and supplies according to established standards.
  • Adhere to all company policies, operational protocols, and regulatory requirements.

Professionalism & Operations
  • Maintain a professional appearance and conduct at all times.
  • Represent LIFEwest Ambulance in a professional and courteous manner when interacting with patients, healthcare professionals, and the public.
  • Maintain ambulances, stations, and equipment in a clean, organized, and presentable condition.
  • Operate emergency vehicles in accordance with safe driving practices and company policy.
  • Respond promptly to dispatcher instructions and assigned calls.

Teamwork & Organizational Support
  • Work effectively with field partners, dispatch personnel, and healthcare providers.
  • Participate in daily assignments, operational duties, and shift responsibilities.
  • Serve as a professional example to peers through strong clinical performance and professionalism.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned by management.
  • Remain available to work beyond scheduled shifts when operational needs require.

Education, Certifications, Licensure & Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must possess the following:
  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED)
  • Current and valid California State Paramedic License
  • Current and valid County Paramedic Accreditation; Sonoma and Marin Counties (within 30 days of hire)
  • Paramedic Advanced Scope Training (within 30 days of hire)
  • Current CPR/BLS Provider certification through the American Heart Association
  • Current ACLS certification through the American Heart Association
  • Current PALS certification through the American Heart Association
  • Current ITLS or PHTLS certification (optional)
  • Valid California Driver's License
  • Ambulance Driver Certificate
  • Valid Medical Examiner's Certificate (DL51)
  • Current H-6 DMV driving record (5-year history issued within 30 days of application) meeting company driving policy requirements
  • Ability to maintain all required certifications and licenses throughout employment


Supervisory Responsibility

This position does not have direct supervisory responsibilities but is expected to serve as a professional example and clinical leader to other field personnel.

Work Environment

Paramedics may be exposed to infectious diseases, bodily fluids, and hazardous environments while performing their duties. The position may involve exposure to traumatic incidents including severely injured, psychiatric, or deceased patients.

Work is performed in a variety of environments including ambulances, healthcare facilities, private residences, public areas, and outdoor environments.

The Paramedic must provide the highest levels of patient care and customer service while adhering to:

Physical and Cognitive Demands

The physical and cognitive demands described here are representative of those required to perform the essential functions of the position.

Paramedics must frequently:
  • Drive, stand, walk, sit, kneel, bend, lift, and carry patients and equipment
  • Lift and move up to approximately 150 pounds with assistance when necessary
  • Maintain situational awareness and sound clinical judgment
  • Communicate clearly both verbally and in writing
  • Remain calm and effective in high-stress and emergency situations

The position requires:

  • Hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills
  • Ability to distinguish colors and maintain adequate vision
  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods
  • Ability to work in outdoor environments including heat, cold, and inclement weather


Travel

Travel is primarily local within the service area during scheduled shifts. Employees may occasionally be required to travel outside the immediate service area or stay overnight for operational needs, training, or special assignments.
