Overview

Supervises a shop or group with day-to-day maintenance tasks on assigned rotary and fixed wing aircraft, equipment and machinery under an RDT&E program. Applies professional technical expertise and guidance to solve complex problems by interpreting technical data such as blueprints or manufactures' manuals.

Responsibilities

Principal Accountabilities

JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Coordinates and supervises activities of personnel, determining and directing specific work assignments.
  • Assists in the operations of the maintenance departments per the CNAFINST 4790.2 series.
  • Ensures full and effective employment of assigned personnel.
  • Ensures all work is scheduled and performed in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Responsible for compliance of special programs as assigned. Ensures direct reports are fully compliant with all approved procedures.
  • Ensures all direct reports and maintenance employees receive job and safety training.
  • Identifies material and special tooling needs to accomplish the daily work assignment.
  • Provides employees with proper training on Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Provide technical training and assistance as needed.
  • May lead and direct a group of two or more individuals.
  • Comply with all current sections of COMNAVAIRFORINST 4790.2 series applicable to aircraft maintenance and ALSS.
  • Working knowledge of technical publications, NAMP and NALCOMIS aircraft maintenance applications.

Knowledge & Skills
  • Knowledge of Safe working techniques and procedures.
  • Ability to plan and schedule maintenance work requirements.
  • Requires working technical knowledge of aircraft, machinery, facilities and equipment.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude in order to offer technical direction in all maintenance areas.
  • Understand technical language terms in associated field.
  • Ability to interact effectively with personnel at all organizational levels.
  • Ability to use a computer.
  • Must have full knowledge of Navy 4790.2 series and the RDT&E community
  • Knowledge of military publications, drawings, blueprints, microfilm, diagrams and schematics is mandatory.
  • Knowledge of military and/or company forms required by work requirements.
  • Working knowledge of safety rules, regulations and procedures.
  • Possess a valid US State driver's license.
  • Ability to read and interpret data is required.
  • Ability to read, write, speak and understand English.
  • Ability to obtain a Government flight line driver's license.

This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense (DoD) Secret Level security clearance

Experience & Education
  • High School degree or equivalent required.
  • Associate's Degree or trade license preferred.
  • A&P License/FAA Certification desirable but not required
  • Six (6) years' experience in the aircraft maintenance environment. (F-18 Flight and Survival Equipment Required)
  • Completion of specialized courses in aircraft structural repair is required.


Physical Requirements/Working Environment
  • May work in Aircraft maintenance hangar or outside.
  • May be required to respond to a wide variety of operational circumstances, including extreme weather conditions and rudimentary infrastructure.
  • May be exposed to extreme noise from turbine and jet engine aircraft.
  • May be exposed to fumes or airborne particles; may be exposed to electrical shock hazards or work near moving mechanical parts, vehicles, or aircraft.
  • Must be able to walk and stand on level and/or inclined surfaces for certain periods throughout the day.
  • Must be able to climb stairs, ramps, ladders, and work stands.
  • Must be able to crouch, crawl, grasp or handle objects, use finger dexterity, bend elbow/knee and reach above/below shoulders.
  • May be required to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • May be required to see aircraft in flight, read dials/gauges, identify small objects and hand tools.
  • Must be able to see imperfections, micrometer readings and other small scales.
  • Must be able to communicate by voice and detect sound by ear.
  • Must be able to distinguish color and judge three-dimensional depth.
  • May be required to operate power vehicles, machinery, hand tools, ground support equipment, fork lift, APU, etc.


Salary Range - $110K - $115K
