Description

We are seeking a Paralegal to provide legal and administrative support to the Compliance and Mission Support group (CLK) across the Laboratory's Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) and legal compliance programs within the Office of the General Counsel (OGC).

As a Paralegal, you will...
  • Work closely with attorneys and other professionals in CLK and OGC to provide legal, administrative, and related support integral to the organization's operations.
  • Support ERM initiatives by maintaining risk-related records, tracking mitigation actions, compiling reports, and assisting with governance and compliance documentation.
  • Maintain confidential compliance databases/case management systems, track cases, monitor deadlines, and prepare reports and metrics related to compliance activities.
  • Support compliance investigations and workloads by organizing records, collecting documentation, preparing chronologies, and maintaining investigative files.
  • Conduct initial intake with customers and prepare intake notes for review and triage.
  • Conduct legal, regulatory, and policy research related to compliance requirements to support attorneys and other compliance professionals in matters affecting Laboratory operations.
  • Track legal developments for key issues impacting the Lab.
  • Assist the Lab with critical legal and compliance matters.
  • Assist in export reviews, government filings and record keeping.
  • Assist attorneys and professional staff with scheduling and calendaring.
  • Interact with APL's management, other internal clients, and outside contacts.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you...
  • Have an Associate's degree from an accredited U.S. institution, with three or more years of specific paralegal experience with a law firm or in-house legal department.
  • Have strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize among a wide variety of projects;
  • Have strong skills in data and internet research, written and verbal communication, and building professional relationships;
  • Have strong computer skills with proficiency in MS Office;
  • Possess an ability to work closely with a wide variety of staff and experience levels, including all levels of management both within the organization and with government agencies;
  • Have a demonstrated ability to work independently and be a standout colleague;
  • Possess a dedicated work ethic, sound judgment, professional demeanor, and be customer focused and discreet;
  • Are able to obtain an Interim Secret level security clearance by your start date and can ultimately obtain a final Secret level clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.

  • Experience supporting one or more of the following functions: enterprise risk management, international trade compliance, employment law, ethics and conduct, government contracting compliance, or workplace investigations.
  • A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Legal Studies from an accredited U.S. institution or a paralegal certificate.
  • An active Security clearance.

$30.40 Hourly

Maximum Rate

$63.40 Hourly
