Job Description

The Office of the Commonwealth's Attorney for Arlington County and the City of Falls Church is seeking a Paralegal I to provide court administration and documentation assistance to professional legal staff for cases before the General District and Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court of Arlington County and the City of Falls Church.

Responsibilities

Specific duties include:
  • Preparing case files for hearings, update case files in a timely manner, and maintain orderly paper and electronic filing systems;
  • Managing all aspects of discovery: track deadliness and pending and received discovery orders; review evidence and redact as required; and prepare and send discovery to defense counsel;
  • Communicating with assigned attorneys, defense counsel, law enforcement agencies, court clerks and other team members to ensure high quality legal support;
  • Aiding the intake team, including assisting in the preparation and maintenance of sentencing and daily dockets;
  • Preparing legal documents;
  • Running and reviewing investigative reports, criminal reports, police reports, and other pertinent information;
  • Reviewing body worn camera videos and 911 call recordings; and
  • Importing evidence into case management system.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent; and
  • Some experience as a legal assistant, legal secretary, paralegal, court specialist or deputy clerk.


Professional License/Certifications - Completion of a paralegal program recognized by the American Bar Association.

Substitution: Qualifying paralegal experience in a legal office may substitute for the paralegal certificate program requirement, and additional education may substitute for required experience.

Desirables: Preference may be given to applicants with one or more of the following:
  • Working knowledge of legal procedures, resources, and workings of the criminal justice system;
  • Ability to understand legal documents;
  • Writing skills to compose basic legal documents;
  • Ability to use computer programs and applications to efficiently complete work and adapt to new technology; and/or
  • Experience working in a fast-paced environment with hard deadlines.

Additional Information

Work Schedule:Full-time, Monday through Friday, flexible schedule with limited telework opportunities and flexibility for occasional evening and weekend hours, as needed.

Compensation: The full salary range for this role is $65,104.00 - $100,921.60 Annually. Starting offers are typically targeted between $65,104.00 - $91,314.08 Annually. (up to 10% above the midpoint), based on qualifications, experience, and internal equity. This position is eligible for overtime.
