Xylem does not provide visa sponsorship for this positionThe RoleThe Packaging Engineer will be responsible for a wide array of packaging, material flow and continuous improvement projects and initiatives located at our Morton Grove facility. This role will design and develop packaging for individual piece parts, bulk shipping and support material flow improvements to ensure the timely and efficient receipt and delivery of material at the lowest total cost of ownership. Proper packaging design includes part containment, protection, and optimization of transportation and other supply network functions.
This engineer will spearhead packaging and continuous improvement projects based on opportunities uncovered personally through their own analysis, through the experience of others on the team, or identified by suppliers and customers.
What You'll Do:- Lead packaging and material flow improvement projects across Supply Chain, Operations, Quality, Engineering, and Purchasing.
- Design and develop packaging solutions for individual components and bulk shipments.
- Conduct packaging assessments to identify cost savings, quality improvements, and efficiency opportunities.
- Support Lean manufacturing and supermarket-based material flow initiatives.
- Lead packaging testing, validation, and supplier packaging improvement projects.
- Drive packaging standardization and continuous improvement efforts.
- Create packaging concepts using CAD or other 3D modeling tools.
What You'll Bring:- Bachelor's degree in Packaging, Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial, Chemical, Aerospace Engineering, or related field.
- 5+ years of packaging, manufacturing, industrial, or material flow engineering experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Hands-on experience with packaging development and standardization.
- Knowledge of Lean manufacturing, material flow, and continuous improvement methodologies.
- CAD/3D design experience preferred.
- Strong project management, analytical, and communication skills.
The estimated salary range for this position is $75k to $115k base plus bonus. Starting pay is dependent on multiple factors, such as skills, experience and work location, and is not typically at the top of the range.
