About the role

This position is part of the Reckitt Research & Development team and reports to the Regional Packaging Development Manager. The role provides technical packaging support and leadership on multiple projects from concept through commercialization. Scope includes package component maintenance, package innovation, cost savings identification and can include other relevant business requests. The individual is expected to accomplish objectives through individual contributions as well as indirect reporting relationships within the department, factory, and RB supplier base.

Your responsibilities

Technical skills-Possesses a basic understanding of industry knowledge and capable of building a technical skillset to create best in class packaging
• Proven ability to modify existing packages by taking them from the bench, pilot plant and commercial scale based on customer or consumer needs.
• Ability to create packaging material specifications providing technical information necessary to support the product/packaging configurations; to insure projects deliver at efficient cost, line performance, package quality, supply chain requirements, and consumer satisfaction.
• Will create components/items within the Reckitt enterprise system and the Reckitt technical document system for packaging documentation. Drive archiving efforts to minimize specification catalog
• Apply/build technical packaging knowledge to assist in operational efficiency from qualification/validation to improving ongoing packaging.
• Full understanding of the technical requirements to meet customer packaging design requirements (e.g. - Club stores/e-commerce, Walmart/Target, CVS, Grocery) and category (Vitamins/minerals/supplements, personal care, Intimate Wellness, and upper respiratory health) packaging requirements.
• Experience with OTC consumer goods manufacturing and packaging principles as it relates to packaging execution.
• Basic understanding of packaging component sustainability, recyclability scope and Reckitt goals and seps to measure and reduce global and local environmental impact.

Project participation- Ability to execute project defined tasks in cross-functional teams including independently working on projects as required.
• Participate in project meetings, support project timeline development, deliver against assigned tasks, manage appropriate project communications across the business.
• Assist/conduct root cause analysis and apply trouble shooting techniques to solve technical issues and performance challenges.
• Conduct lab analysis, production line trials, product validation activities and supplier testing as needed on related projects. Generate and analyze collected data to drive technical and business recommendations.
• Attend/coordinate packaging supplier and/or Reckitt plant trials to assist in evaluation or problem resolution.
• Develop packaging options/cost models and scenarios to recommend ideal solutions.
• Effectively lead small to medium scale factory projects, coordinating amongst peers and able to report out results, risks, and progress.

Innovation- Assist with technical analysis of prospective product examples to deliver innovative R&D/Supply solutions to enhance Reckitt product satisfaction and value.
• Identify and support technologies that drive breakthroughs into new packages, cost savings and/or core renovation initiatives within the packaging organization.
• Represent the packaging organization and partner with internal/external business functions to commercialize packaging solutions.
• Research equipment and technical solutions for the package engineering organization improvement
• Work across all functions, including the balance of R&D, Operations, Quality, Engineering, Commercial, Procurement and Suppliers to support project launches as need.

The experience we're looking for

• Bachelor's Degree in Packaging, Package Engineering, or Packaging Science required.
• 2 to 5+ years of relevant and experience with progressive responsibilities and project execution in the consumer products, OTC, or Nutraceutical (vitamins/supplements) products.
• Familiar with US good manufacturing regulatory requirements in relation to Packaging.
• Knowledge of packaging (or related) technical procedures commonly used in a manufacturing setting.
• Technical and theoretical packaging materials and process knowledge (paperboard/corrugate converting, resin blow molding, injection molding, thermoforming, film and sheet conversion)
• Knowledge in packaging equipment systems including qualifications and validation practices.
• Ability to define problems, collect data, analyze results and recommend changes/improvements.
• Ability to organize and present technical and project management overviews.
• Experience supporting multiple projects concurrently and still meeting critical project milestones.
• Demonstrated efficiency with MS Office, TOPS, ERP systems (SAP) with Solid Works exposure as a plus.
• Energetic and self-motivated professional with a sense of urgency.
• Capable and willing to learn and be coached by manager, staff and others.
• Effective and proactive verbal and written communication skills.
• Position requires approximately 15% travel

US salary ranges

USD $79,000.00 - $119,000.00

US pay transparency

The base salary range for this role will vary based on experience in job and industry, training and education, skills relevant to the position, and other factors permitted by law.
