Orthopedic APP - Hospital based Position Overview
Lakeland Regional Health is seeking a Physician Assistant (PA) or Nurse Practitioner (NP) to support a high volume inpatient Orthopaedic practice. Primary focus will be trauma patients, but they will need to also care for inpatients from other orthopaedic subspecialties as needed. This role is designed for a highly motivated APP, interested mainly in hospital-based care. The applicant will work on a biweekly schedule alternating between day shifts and night shifts - i.e. 7 consecutive 12-hour shifts followed by 7 days off. This position includes a robust training period with the APP and physician staff over the first several months. Expectations are for the PA or NP to function on a high level of independence once fully trained in their respective position.
Experience
• Experienced candidates preferred:
• 2-5+ years of orthopaedic experience strongly preferred with clinical experience
• New graduates must:
• Show strong interest in orthopaedics required with previous exposure to orthopaedics or musculoskeletal medicine recommended
• Be highly motivated to learn in a fast-paced environment with ability to learn independently as well as learn from colleagues. Training period length will be based on each individuals needs
Job Responsibilities
• Be the first point of contact for orthopedic consults that come in during the shift
• Conduct detailed patient histories, perform physical exams, and orthopaedic evaluations
• Have the ability to form treatment plans and present to on call physician
• Perform bedside procedures including but not limited to: irrigation and splinting of open fractures, irrigation and debridement of wounds or abscesses, negative pressure wound therapy device changes at bedside, closed reductions with splinting or casting, joint aspirations • Must be able to take direction from multiple surgeons regarding patient care
• Review and interpret diagnostic imaging, including X-rays, CT scans, and MRI
• Serve as first assist in the operating room for emergent cases overnight
• Participate in pre- and post-operative care coordination
• Be able to coordinate patient care with multiple specialties in the hospital
• Apply and remove splints, casts, and braces as needed
• Accurately document all encounters, procedures, and treatment plans in the EMR

Qualifications
• Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner program
• Must have current Florida medical license or ability to obtain one as NP or PA
• NCCPA certification (PA) or national board certification (NP) required
• Strong clinical judgment, efficiency, and patient communication skills
• Must have ability to work independently with the support of fellow APPs and physicians
