Overview

This position is responsible for all environmental compliance, regulatory, and technical activities related to the operation of our power stations and related facilities. Leads, directs, and oversees environmental protection and compliance activities for assigned power plant, including supervision of environmental coordinators and support staff.

Responsibilities

What you will do
  • Provides direct supervision of employees, contractors, and support staff, including planning, work assignments, training, development, and performance evaluations.
  • Directs and manages all plant activities related to environmental compliance.
  • Ensures adherence with safe work practices and procedures.
  • Stays abreast of local, state, federal, and industry laws, regulations, and technologies, in order to assure compliance and best practices.
  • Leads and directs activities to place, monitor quality, and report on coal combustion products (CCP's).
  • Directs and supervises routine monitoring. Audits and provides guidance of station compliance for all air, water, and solid waste requirements.
  • Evaluates plant processes for environmental compliance and seeks out ways for process improvement. Implements and coordinates assignments related to environmental activities.
  • Reviews, analyzes, and makes recommendations on specific scientific data. Provides regular reporting, advice, and recommendations to plant managers concerning environmental performance.
  • Reviews, analyzes, and makes recommendations related to proposed/existing environmental legislation/regulations.
  • Leads and guides the preparation of accurate and timely reports as necessary for submittal to regulatory agencies. Maintains records as required by company policy and environmental regulations.
  • Provides input and recommendations to Environmental Affairs to: (1) support communication to regulatory agencies regarding compliance, (2) keep current on regulatory development, to provide regular status and circumstances regarding plant operations and status, (3) advise plant management and staff, and keep plant personnel advised of changes.
  • Oversees and ensures effective planning activities related to environmental compliance.
  • Provides information and recommendations related to development of plant budgets and business plans.
  • Develops, supports, and conducts environmental compliance training, tailgates, and information sessions for plant personnel.
  • Supports, leads, develops, and oversees waste reduction, recycling and alternative product programs.
  • Coordinates permitting in the water and hazardous waste areas.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in environmental science, applied science, or related technical discipline
  • 5+ years increasingly responsible professional environmental regulatory and/or technical experience or
  • 7+ years experience in environmental regulatory and/or technical experience with an Associates degree.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Masters level degree
  • Knowledge of environmental theories, principles, and practices and knowledge of power plant operations/equipment
  • Leadership experience
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and verbal/written communication skills.
  • Must be comfortable with communicating with all stakeholder groups.
  • Ability to use formal training in practical application to work assignments.
  • Must be able to process data and plant conditions to assess environmental performance, opportunities for improvement, etc.
