Job Description
THE WORK
The Lab Design & Build Team needs a technically-savvy professional who can bridge hands-on assembly with manufacturing-engineering duties. You will interpret engineering prints, analyze the corresponding bill of materials, manage suppliers and inventory, as well as fabricate cable harnesses and mechanical sub-assemblies. You are also expected to help report status of projects, produce the detailed cost and process documentation that drives efficient lab-bench construction.
The role blends hands-on cable-harness assembly, prototype build, and "build-to-print" production with engineering-support activities such as drawing review, bill-of-materials (BOM) creation, cost estimation, and process-improvement documentation. No formal work instructions are provided; the technician must interpret engineering prints, select appropriate tooling, and assure quality through continuity testing and audit participation.
WHO YOU ARE
You are a dynamic and results-oriented professional with a passion for driving operational excellence and optimizing production processes. You thrive in a fast-paced environment and are adept at managing complex projects while maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail. Your strong analytical skills, coupled with your ability to communicate effectively and collaborate across departments, make you an invaluable asset to our team.
Basic Qualifications
• 6 5 years of hands-on cable-harness/mechanical assembly plus 6 2 years of manufacturing-engineering or estimating work (BOM creation, supplier/vendor interaction, cost analysis).
• Working knowledge of IPC - 610, IPC - 620 & IPC - 630
• Proficient with crimping, soldering, torque tools, and precision measuring instruments.
• Strong Excel abilities - complex BOMs, pricing matrices, lead-time analysis.
• Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems for part-number creation and inventory tracking.
• Ability to read GD&T, wiring diagrams, and mechanical prints.
• Clear written documentation and effective coordination with vendors and internal teams.
• Ability to lift 15 lbs. repeatedly; stand or sit for long periods; use PPE appropriately.
Desired skills
• Review engineering drawings and engineering notes to determine feasibility and required materials.
• Ability to validate mil-spec part numbers, quantities, and specifications.
• Analytical mindset - enjoys dissecting BOMs, comparing vendor costs, and finding cost-saving opportunities.
• Self-starter - can work from prints without step-by-step instructions and drive projects in prototype to environment.
• Team player - bridges the gap between the shop floor and engineering/supply-chain functions.
• Detail-oriented - takes pride in flawless assemblies and accurate documentation.
