Full Job Description
SUMMARY : Provides high-touch accounting and financial management services to clients across a variety of industries including real estate, restaurants, medical practices, and nonprofits. This client-facing role focuses on overseeing day-to-day accounting operations, maintaining accurate and timely financial reporting, strengthening processes and controls, and supporting client leadership with reliable financial information by performing the following duties.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Operational Financial Oversight
  • Oversees monthly close and reviews timely, accurate financial reporting for assigned clients.
  • Maintains general ledger integrity, account reconciliations, and month-end reporting processes.
  • Supervises or coordinates with in-house and client-based accounting and bookkeeping staff.
  • Implements and improves accounting systems, workflows, and internal processes (e.g., QuickBooks, BILL, APS).

Financial Reporting, Budgeting & Analysis
  • Supports budgeting and forecasting efforts in collaboration with client leadership.
  • Prepares financial analyses, variance reports, and management reporting packages.
  • Assists with development of KPIs, dashboards, and operational reporting tools.
  • Provides financial insights to support informed business and operational decisions.

Client Relationship Management
  • Acts as a primary accounting and financial operations contact for assigned clients.
  • Participates in onboarding meetings and recurring client meetings (limited local travel).
  • Builds strong relationships with client management teams through responsive service and reliable execution.

CAS Practice Development
  • Supports business development efforts and helps grow the CAS practice.
  • Contributes to service design, SOP development, and process improvement.
  • Mentors junior staff and provides thought leadership within the practice.

Compliance & Support
  • Supports accurate GAAP-based financial reporting, account reconciliations, and internal control processes.
  • Coordinates with internal HMV audit and tax teams and assists clients with audit and tax preparation requests.

Leadership
  • Leads assigned client accounting engagements within the Client Advisory Services Department.
  • Provides training, guidance, and technical support to staff in accounting operations and reporting areas.
  • Demonstrates strong character and a high level of commitment to the firm.
  • Demonstrates alignment with our vision, strategy, and values; empowers people to work together in meaningful and productive ways.
  • Demonstrates appropriate leadership skills including, but not limited to, effective and timely engagement oversight, timely and accurate communications across all departments and staff of all levels within the Firm, timely and accurate identification of technical issues, timely and appropriate identification of any staff issues and/or concerns, timely client communications regarding open items, and other similar items.
  • Provides counseling/coaching, oversight and support for the team.
  • Recognizes resource/team capabilities and delegates work effectively, holding team accountable.
  • Mentors and develops staff, including participation in the recruitment and retention of professional staff.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

May supervise lower-level Client Advisory Services staff. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the Firm's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities may include training employees; planning, assigning, and overseeing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and/or Experience:

Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university in Accounting with strong academic track record (minimum GPA of 3.0); CPA certification preferred. Minimum 7 years of progressive experience in accounting or finance roles. Prior experience as a Controller, Assistant Controller, Accounting Manager, or similar role preferred. Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and month-end close processes required.

Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should be proficient in Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel. Familiarity with accounting and reporting software such as QuickBooks, BILL, APS Payroll, and Microsoft Excel is expected. Experience with Sage Intacct or NetSuite is a plus. Working knowledge of office equipment, computer hardware and peripheral devices.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to walk or use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee is occasionally required to stand; reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.
