Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Review Physician's referral, patient's condition and medical records to determine appropriate orthotic management. Obtains history and subjective components of the evaluation. Observes posture, position, and palpates anatomical structures. Plans and prepares written treatment plan based on evaluation of patient data. Select materials and components and make cast measurements, model modifications, and layouts using measuring equipment. Evaluate devices on patients and make adjustments to ensure fit, function, comfort, and quality; and instruct patients in use of orthopedic devices. Repairs and maintains orthopedic devices by using hand tools. Records general makeup of device, provided education material, quality of fit, and patients response to administration of device in patient's chart or enters information into computer. Confers with Physician and other practitioners to obtain additional patient information, suggest revisions in orthotic management, and integrate orthotics with other aspects of patient's health care. Orients, instructs, and directs work activities of assistants, technicians, and other orthotic and prosthetic professionals. Plans and conducts lectures and training programs on orthotics and related topics for medical staff, students, and community groups. Coordinates activities with other clinic locations.

Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or two to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Certification and Licensure

License to practice Orthotics and or Prosthetics in Illinois, Wisconsin, or both if required. CPR certification

Skills and Abilities
Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of PHS, HBO, ChartView Database software, Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook software.

Other Skills and Abilities: Attends continuing education programs, may be required to work flexible hours, may be required to work in other locations.

Special Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and taste or smell. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus.

Level of Supervision

Some independent judgment is required, but alternatives are limited by standard practices or procedures.

PAY RANGE:

$64,012.06 - $102,419.20
