Ore Control Geologist
  • For California based roles the expected salary range is $92,240 - $126,830


About the role

The ore control geologist supports day-to-day ore planning and production activities by monitoring ore quality parameters in the mine and ensuring all ore quality parameters are met in providing a consistent ore feed to the processing plants. Working closely with operations and technical teams, this role helps ensure ore mining and blending plans are carried out effectively, monitors drilling information and production performance, and identifies opportunities to improve ore quality and achieve ore production goals.

Reporting to the Sr Geologist you will:
  • Ensure compliance with the Rio Tinto safety standards. Complete Critical Control Field Verifications and Safety Observations. Attend departmental safety talks and be proactive in safety issues. Carry out housekeeping inspections as required.
  • Formulate short term ore mine plans (weekly to monthly). Ensure that short term ore mine plans align with medium and long range mine plans.
  • Communication of Ore mine plans with Mine Operations Supervisors and Operators as well as Plant Personnel.
  • Ore Blast hole stratigraphic logging and sampling.
  • Weekly ore dig map updating with tons and grade of ore to be mined using topographic survey maps.
  • Communication with the onsite laboratory for dropping off samples and receiving assay results.
  • Create Ore Blend plans to meet plant ore grade targets as well as ensure consistent quality parameters.
  • Updating ore dig maps using updated topographic surveys and mine operations load data.
  • Monthly Ore Mining Reconciliation.
  • Ore Stockpile tonnage and grade tracking.
  • Maintain ore control information systems, such as blast hole database, blast hole sampling protocol and all aspects of record keeping.
  • Crushed ore fragmentation system management.
  • Bench face field mapping.
  • Diamond and RC drilling logging and sample collection.
  • Contractor Management of drill rigs for diamond core drilling and sonic core drilling campaigns.
  • Take part in Business Improvement projects.


About you

To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:
  • Bachelor's degree in geology or related Earth Sciences discipline.
  • 1-4 years of relevant experience in an active mining setting.
