Title:
Opto-Mechanical Designer - REMOTETHIS POSITION IS CONTINGENT UPON CONTRACT AWARD
THIS POSITION IS REMOTE
Under general supervision, performs all conventional aspects of the functionalareasubject matter. Devises new approachesto problems encountered. Plans, schedules, and conducts
work requiring judgment in the independent evaluation,selection, and adaptation of engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria. Performs work which involves conventional engineering practice but may include a variety of complex features such as conflicting design requirements, unsuitability of conventional materials, and difficult coordination requirements.Providestechnical guidance to designers and less experienced engineers.
The Opto-Mechanical Designer willbe responsible forthe design and modeling of mechanical components to interface withoptical elements such as lenses, mirrors, diffractiveelementsand filters. The candidatewill design and model the mechanical means to mount and position these elements in an optical system. The designer will also need to be able to develop detailed drawings of these optical elementsand overall optical systemas well as fabrication and assembly drawings for the mechanical hardware and optical assemblies.
Required Education, Experience, & Skills:
Education:Bachelor'sDegree in a related field or equivalent7+ years of related experience
Specific knowledge related to themechanical designmountsand modeling ofopto-mechanical systems. Proficient in CAD software (SolidWorks, NX), providing innovative and practical mechanical solutions in support of optical system development.
Ability to work all phases of opto-mechanical subsystems from the conceptual design layout, package prototyping, fixture/tooling design, development of mechanical attachment methods/tools foroptimaloptical alignmentincluding system level assembly and interface drawings (ICD)
Develop assembly and test proceduresand support all levels of optical subsystem integration and testsand reportas necessary.
Support trade studies and recommend system architecture and design approach. Must be capable of leading the development of design concepts for optic handling equipment and support development of test support equipment.
Conduct analysis and evaluation of a design concept to produce realistic assessment of development and manufacturing risks. Develop strategies for mitigating risks.
Work with other engineers, technicians,manufacturingand quality engineers in a team environment.
Prepare and deliver technical presentations and support project level reviews.Prior experience with NASA or other work related to space flight hardwareLocation: Work can be performed remotely
Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills:
BS in a technical field
Proficient in NX or SolidWorks computer aided software tool
Active TS/SCI clearance is preferred.
Basic Compensation:
Jobs on this contract range from $81,700 - $122,600. Pay range is specific to the USA national Average .
The offered rate will be based on the position, contract affordability, the selected candidate’s working location, knowledge, skills, abilities, experience, and in consideration of internal parity.
Additional Compensation:
KBR may offer bonuses, commissions, or other forms of compensation to certain job titles or levels, per internal policy or contractual designation. Additional compensation may be in the form of sign on bonus, relocation benefits, short-term incentives, long-term incentives, or discretionary payments for exceptional performance.
