The RoleThe Operations Technician III - Federal OSP Fiber Maintenance provides oversight and guidance ensuring maintenance related activities are accomplished to program and industry standards.
The Main Responsibilities- Lead aspects of OSP maintenance and splicing;
- Develop preventive maintenance and restoration procedures for OSP facilities;
- Splice and test fiber optic cable in all types of field environments;
- Communicate verbally with construction subcontractors regarding proper procedures for placement of outside cable plant;
- Interface with OSP engineers to determine best course of action for repairs;
- Install racks and Fiber Distribution Panels (FDPs);
- Terminate fiber optic cables;
- Read and interpret Method of Procedures (MOPs), OSP drawings, and Optical Time Domain Reflectometer (OTDR) traces;
- Provide oversight to junior team members;
- Manually uncover manhole/handhole using hand tools in all types of field environments;
- Conduct reel testing of new fiber optic cables;
- Troubleshoot issues relating to fiber plant;
- Provide quality assurance on work performed by junior installers and correct errors/omissions; and
- Ensure engineered documentation is properly redlined and returned to OSP engineering for sign-off.
What We Look For in a CandidateBasic Qualifications:- Associate degree in Engineering, Electronics, Software, or Networks; or a related technical or vocational education or equivalent experience
- Seven or more years applicable work experience
- Some local travel required
- Provide functional guidance, supervision, technical support, training, quality assurance/control to technicians
- Good communication skills (verbal and written)
- Able to stand or sit for hours in front of splice machine
- Clean driving record
Preferred Qualifications:- Demonstrated advanced proficiency in the use of Optical Time Domain Reflectometers (OTDRs) for fiber characterization, fault isolation, loss analysis, and troubleshooting of fiber optic networks
- Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to identify, diagnose, and resolve fiber optic span issues, including signal degradation, fiber cuts, excessive loss
- Comprehensive knowledge of fiber optic infrastructure, including single-mode.
- Hands-on experience performing fusion splicing, ribbon splicing, and fiber restoration activities while maintaining high-quality workmanship and adherence to customer specifications
- Experience supporting the installation, maintenance, and testing of fiber optic networks in mission-critical or large-scale telecommunications environments
- Proven ability to work independently in field environments while effectively coordinating with engineers
- Advanced experience operating capstan cable pullers and associated cable placement equipment for the installation of fiber optic
CompensationThis information reflects the anticipated base salary range for this position based on current national data. Minimums and maximums may vary based on location. Individual pay is based on skills, experience and other relevant factors.

$81,206 - $108,273 in these states: VA
