Operations Plant Supervisor

  • Lead a frontline processing team in a safety-focused and inclusive environment
  • Build operational leadership capability through coaching, continuous improvement and hands-on experience
  • Based at Refinery on a 4 on 4 off dayshift roster


About the role

We are looking for an Operations Plant Supervisor to lead the safe and reliable delivery of production activities across an assigned shift, processing area or operational segment. You will coordinate people, equipment and daily priorities while supporting team capability, operational discipline and continuous improvement.

Reporting to the Manager - Refinery Operations and working within the Operations Team.

What you'll be doing

  • Lead and support operating employees to complete work safely, efficiently and in line with production requirements.
  • Coordinate daily production activities, priorities and equipment deployment for the assigned shift or operational area.
  • Monitor work practices and reinforce compliance with safety standards, procedures and operational controls.
  • Set clear expectations, allocate work and coordinate activities with other supervisors, maintenance teams and support functions.
  • Coach, develop and provide timely feedback to team members, helping build capability, accountability and an inclusive team culture.
  • Resolve day-to-day operational issues using established procedures, sound judgement and appropriate escalation when needed.
  • Facilitate Lean and Rio Tinto management system activities that support continuous improvement, reliability and performance.
  • Communicate shift priorities, production performance, operational risks and handover information clearly and accurately.


About you

To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:

  • A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team.
  • Relevant supervisory or frontline leadership experience in a mining, processing, manufacturing or other industrial environment.
  • Practical knowledge of ore handling or materials processing operations, including safe interaction with mobile equipment.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, coach and develop team members while building trust, accountability and collaboration.
  • Effective communication, planning, organization and problem-solving skills, with confidence using Microsoft Office applications.
  • A valid driver's license. A relevant tertiary qualification, trade certificate or technical diploma is considered an asset.

Our Kennecott mine is a world-class, fully integrated copper mining operation, including a concentrator, smelter, and refinery, located just outside Salt Lake City, Utah, in the United States.
