Summary

Ryerson is seeking an Operations Manager in our Edmonton, AB location to lead and oversee the management and strategic operations of our warehouse functions. In this role, you will formulate strategies, enforce company policies, and enhance performance through effective data management. Your expertise will be crucial in identifying trends and assessing opportunities to improve processes and execution, ensuring our operations run smoothly and efficiently.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Leading and managing a team of approximetely 15 front-line operators in the planning and execution of day-to-day operations ensuring a focus on a safety-first culture
  • Ensuring warehouse staff are trained in health, safety, and environmental practices pertinent to their positions as required by Alberta's Occupational Health and Safety Act and company policies
  • Managing staffing, supply, and equipment needs based on forecasted volume
  • Mentoring, developing, and expanding talent and performance initiatives throughout the location
  • Identifying and creating continuous process improvement opportunities
  • Driving strategic initiatives as required
  • Overseeing machine and building maintenance to ensure preventative maintenance programs are in place to minimize downtime
  • Providing direction and coaching in safe work practices; supporting safety goals

Requirements

  • College degree preferred
  • 5 plus years of operations management experience is required, preferably in the metal processing/distributing industry
  • Knowledge of ISO policies, procedures, and work instructions as outlined by ISO 9001:2008
  • Knowledge of statistical process control, warehousing, metal handling, equipment operation, and transportation regulations and procedures
  • Solid understanding of Alberta's Occupational Health and Safety Act
  • SAP experience preferred
  • MS Office experience (Word, Excel, etc.)
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, problem-solving, negotiation, and leadership abilities
  • Demonstrated experience in continuous improvement initiatives - e.g. lean manufacturing, 5S, LEAN, 6-sigma etc.
