Description

The Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of day-to-day plant operations at the Temple Generating Station, a dual 766MW combined cycle power facility. The site features Siemens SGT6-5000F gas turbines, SST6-5000 steam turbines, and associated systems, delivering reliable power to the Texas ERCOT grid.

Reporting to the Plant Manager, the Operations Manager leads a skilled team of 21 direct reports and ensures safe, reliable, and cost-effective plant operations. This role emphasizes leadership, operational excellence, and a continuous improvement mindset to maximize plant availability and performance.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership and oversight for daily operations and maintenance activities to achieve safety, environmental, reliability, and financial performance targets.
  • Recruit, train, and develop a multi-skilled operations team that is technically proficient, flexible, and motivated.
  • Collaborate with the Maintenance Manager to plan and coordinate maintenance activities to maximize plant availability.
  • Monitor plant performance, adjusting operational strategies and schedules as needed to optimize production and cost-effectiveness.
  • Maintain strong relationships with vendors, contractors, and suppliers to ensure quality service delivery and cost control.
  • Implement and manage continuous improvement initiatives, driving operational excellence and process efficiency.
  • Ensure compliance with all environmental, health & safety (EH&S), and NERC regulatory requirements.
  • Oversee plant production in alignment with power purchase agreements, market commitments, and owner requirements.
  • Develop and execute training and qualification programs for operations staff.
  • Lead the plant's response to abnormal conditions, forced outages, and emergency situations, including 24/7 on-call support as needed.
  • Ensure accurate and timely plant documentation, including operational logs, reports, and maintenance records.
  • Support budget development and monitor plant operational expenses to ensure fiscal responsibility.
  • Promote a culture of teamwork, accountability, and plant ownership among staff.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Plant Manager or company leadership.


Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in power plant operations and maintenance, with a strong understanding of gas and steam turbine technologies.
  • Proven leadership experience managing operational teams in a power generation environment.
  • Expertise in gas turbines, steam turbines, generators, electronic controls, and monitoring systems.
  • Solid knowledge of EH&S regulations, NERC compliance, and industry best practices.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, plant monitoring software, and production reporting tools.
  • Demonstrated analytical, organizational, and decision-making skills.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to foster teamwork and build effective relationships at all levels.
  • Experience managing operational budgets, tracking costs, and driving financial performance.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and be able to respond to site emergencies.
  • Performs repetitive and non-repetitive physical duties. Requiring lifts, pushing, pulling, stretching, bending, climbing, working in awkward positions, and lifting up to 50 lbs.
