EthosEnergy is seeking an Operations and Maintenance Technician (OMT) to support the Campbell Power Plant in Sacramento, California. This is a multi-craft operations and maintenance position responsible for the safe, reliable, efficient, and environmentally compliant operation and maintenance of a combined-cycle power generation facility and for supporting operation of the McClellan Power Plant.

The OMT performs field and control-room operations, equipment inspections, troubleshooting, preventive and corrective maintenance, plant chemistry activities, environmental compliance tasks, electrical switching and equipment isolation within qualification and authorization, and supports planned and forced outages.

This is a progressive qualification position. Employees are expected to complete Campbell OMT qualification within established site qualification timelines, then complete qualification at the McClellan Power Plant, and continue progressing toward Lead Operations and Maintenance Technician (LOMT) qualification. OMT qualification is not intended to be the permanent endpoint of the position.

McClellan qualification is a required component of the LOMT development path. The LOMT serves as the lead operator in the Campbell control room and shift lead for the two-person operating crew. The LOMT responds to PSO dispatch instructions, conducts Campbell startup and shutdown from the control room, performs remote startup and shutdown of the McClellan Power Plant through the DCS, and coordinates qualified operator response to the McClellan site when required.

Employees are also expected to develop into Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) for assigned plant systems or functional areas and may receive special technical, operational, maintenance, outage, training, or project assignments from the Operations and Maintenance Manager based on facility needs.

This position works a 12-hour rotating DuPont shift schedule, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays, and may require overtime, call-ins, outage support, training, and emergency response assignments.

Job Responsibilities

• Perform field rounds, equipment inspections, and operator watch duties; identify abnormal conditions and initiate timely corrective action.
• Operate plant equipment and auxiliary systems from the field and DCS in accordance with approved procedures, operating limits, permits, and dispatch requirements.
• Support and, once qualified, perform startup, shutdown, loading, unloading, and abnormal operating evolutions at the Campbell Power Plant.
• Successfully complete Campbell OMT qualification within established site qualification timelines and maintain required qualifications and continuing training.
• Following Campbell OMT qualification, complete McClellan Power Plant qualification as part of continued progression toward Campbell LOMT qualification.
• Progress toward LOMT qualification and demonstrate increasing proficiency in control-room operation, troubleshooting, casualty response, decision-making, communication, coordination, and shift leadership.
• Once LOMT qualified, serve as the lead control-room operator and shift lead for the two-person Campbell operating crew.
• As LOMT, respond to PSO dispatch instructions and coordinate Campbell plant operation consistent with procedures, permit requirements, equipment limitations, customer requirements, and site authority.
• As LOMT, conduct Campbell startup and shutdown from the control room and remotely initiate startup and shutdown of the McClellan Power Plant through the DCS when dispatched.
• As LOMT, contact and coordinate the relief shift for McClellan dispatches and arrange for a qualified operator to respond to the McClellan site when required.
• When McClellan qualified, respond as an OMT to the McClellan facility when operational support is required, including when the relief shift is unavailable and the employee is available to respond.
• Maintain awareness of McClellan operating status during remote operations and coordinate activities among PSO, the Campbell control room, management, and the operator responding to the McClellan site.
• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on pumps, valves, motors, compressors, heat exchangers, turbine and generator auxiliaries, demineralizers, water-treatment equipment, and other balance-of-plant systems.
• Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, controls, process, and equipment problems within assigned qualification and craft capability; use drawings, manuals, trends, alarms, test equipment, and condition-monitoring information to identify causes and corrective actions.
• Perform inspection, repair, replacement, assembly, disassembly, lubrication, cleaning, alignment, adjustment, and testing of plant equipment using appropriate hand tools, power tools, and precision/diagnostic equipment.
• Perform electrical switching and operate circuit breakers as required for safe system operation and electrical isolation, only within established training, procedures, qualification, and authorization.
• Apply and comply with the site's hazardous-energy-control / Lockout-Tagout (LOTO) program and verify equipment isolation before work begins.
• Monitor and maintain HRSG, cooling-water, demineralized-water, wastewater, and related plant chemistry within established limits; perform sampling, testing, chemical-feed adjustments, and documentation as required.
• Operate demineralizer and water-treatment systems and monitor water quality to ensure adequate plant inventory and chemistry for continued operation.
• Support CEMS and SCR operation, routine calibrations, gas-bottle change-outs, troubleshooting, documentation, and environmental compliance activities.
• Recognize conditions that threaten environmental permit compliance and take conservative action, including load restriction, escalation, or shutdown when required by procedure or permit.
• Utilize the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) to generate, document, update, and close work orders; accurately record technical findings and completed work.
• Identify emerging equipment deficiencies, initiate corrective work, and communicate equipment condition, operating risk, and work status to the LOMT and Operations and Maintenance Manager.
• Support outage planning, scheduling, execution, contractor coordination, equipment isolation, inspection, testing, and return-to-service activities.
• Assist with development, revision, and continuous improvement of operating procedures, maintenance procedures, training materials, qualification materials, drawings, and plant standards.
• Participate in root-cause analysis, event reviews, operating-experience reviews, hazard identification, and reliability improvement activities.
• Develop into and serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for assigned plant systems or functional areas.
• As an assigned SME, maintain technical proficiency; support procedure ownership, training and qualification content, troubleshooting, equipment reliability, operating experience, technical documentation, and knowledge transfer to other team members.
• Provide coaching, mentoring, and technical training to other personnel as experience and qualifications are developed.
• Support purchasing, material coordination, inventory activities, vendor interaction, housekeeping, plant appearance, and other tasks necessary for safe and reliable facility operation.
• Operate mobile or material-handling equipment, including forklift or other approved equipment, when trained and authorized.
• Perform special assignments, technical investigations, projects, temporary system ownership, outage responsibilities, training initiatives, or other operational and maintenance activities as directed by the Operations and Maintenance Manager.
• Maintain professional communication with fellow employees, management, contractors, vendors, the customer, PSO, and regulatory or technical support personnel as assigned.

Required Skills / Knowledge

• Demonstrated ability and willingness to complete formal qualification requirements, accept increasing operational responsibility, and progress from OMT through McClellan and ultimately LOMT qualification.
• Ability to learn complex power-plant systems and develop sufficient technical depth to serve as a Subject Matter Expert in assigned areas.
• Working knowledge of power-plant, industrial, or utility systems and the ability to learn plant-specific procedures, controls, drawings, and operating practices.
• Mechanical aptitude and hands-on maintenance capability; working knowledge of electrical, instrumentation, controls, or power-generation systems is strongly preferred.
• Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, P&IDs, electrical one-lines, logic diagrams, technical manuals, operating procedures, and equipment documentation.
• Ability to monitor DCS indications, alarms, trends, permissives, interlocks, sequence logic, and equipment status; experience with Siemens T3000 or another utility-scale DCS is preferred.
• Ability to make sound, conservative decisions during abnormal and emergency conditions and to protect personnel, equipment, environmental compliance, and grid reliability.
• Ability to communicate clearly, coordinate operating activities, direct work when assigned, and develop toward responsibility for leading a two-person operating shift.
• Good written, verbal, computer, documentation, and report-writing skills.
• Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while functioning effectively as part of a small operating team.
• Ability to adapt to changing priorities, dispatch requirements, outages, emergencies, and special assignments.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications; experience with CMMS, historian/trending software, and electronic logbooks is preferred.
• Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, test equipment, and shop equipment appropriate to assigned work.

Experience

• Two or more years of power-generation, industrial operations/maintenance, military technical, or equivalent applicable experience and/or training is required; a combination of relevant experience and technical education may be considered.
• Combined-cycle, simple-cycle, cogeneration, refinery, chemical, industrial utility, or similar operating experience is preferred.
• Previous experience with gas turbines, steam turbines, HRSGs, generators, electrical distribution, control-room operation, water treatment, plant chemistry, CEMS/SCR, rotating equipment, or industrial maintenance is preferred.
• Previous shift-lead, control-room, or team-coordination experience is desirable but not required for entry into the OMT development path.

Education Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Associate degree, military technical school, or technical certificate in power generation, industrial maintenance, mechanical technology, electrical technology, instrumentation and controls, or a related discipline is preferred.
• Equivalent combinations of education, technical training, and relevant industrial experience may be considered.

Physical Requirements

• Must be able and willing to work a 12-hour rotating DuPont shift schedule, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Must be available for overtime, call-ins, training, planned and forced outages, and emergency response assignments as required.
• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods; climb stairs, ladders, and scaffolding; work from elevated platforms; bend, kneel, reach, and perform work in awkward positions.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and safely use hand tools, power tools, and maintenance equipment.
• Ability to work outdoors in inclement weather and in hot, cold, noisy, dusty, wet, or otherwise challenging industrial environments.
• Ability to work in confined spaces and around high-pressure steam, water, air, rotating machinery, energized electrical equipment, chemicals, and chemical-treatment systems in accordance with site safety programs.
• Ability to wear required personal protective equipment, including respiratory protection and SCBA where applicable and medically qualified.
• Ability to respond to and work at the McClellan Power Plant when assigned, qualified, and operationally required.
